BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Unless Atkins goes silly or something too good to pass up comes along, I don’t think a catcher gets moved until the off-season. Same with a guy like Teo or any other big roster changing moves. As expected, the additional post season spots are likely to have created a bit of a seller’s market. Based on how this season is going I’m not sure I want the Jays bidding for any of the high-end pieces especially those on expiring contracts. It will cost too much. I am hoping for improvements that might be more of the creative type. Something that might make me say “I didn’t see that one coming.” It’sa tough call for the front office because they’re still in WC spot with probabilities suggesting 90% of getting there. I want to see them get in. They want to get in obviously. But the current trend of the team is looking rough. There are moves to help that IÂ’m sure that arenÂ’t of the variety of the Castillos/Montas’,etc of the world. Ross has his work cut out for him and I think he’ll be busy, he’s shown he’saggressive and I believe he’s clever so I amstill invested in seeing them attain some help pre-deadline.

Peacock - "yes sir it is" Jays - "oh good, I can hear you're still breathing, may we ask, is your arm still attached to your body?" Peacock - "ummmmm, yes it is" Jays - "how often do you hit back to back hitters square in the numbers?" Peacock - "um.....not often? or never?" Jays - "oh good, we've been looking at your Fangraphs page and while you seem to be f***ing terrible, we simply need warm bodies that still have arms that don't walk and/or hit a couple of batters every inning - so we'd like to sign you" Peacock - "awesome"
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Its like in Moneyball where Beane signed Hattenberg despite having an arm that can't throw. Same convo. WE'LL HAVE OUR 21 GAME WIN STREAK NOW.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 This is from the Cubbies in 2019 but here we are 2022 Blue Jays....

I think it's a very difficult situation. Personally I think they have too many holes to warranty 'big moves' to go for it this year. I suspect we'll see a bunch of small moves - hoping to catch lightning in a bottle like the Braves did last year; however, I think there probability of that happening is pretty slim. I think the right move is to actually be sellers and take advantage of the sellers market. I think there's a good chance that even if they sell, they still make the playoffs (and lose just like they probably will if they make either small or big moves). Option A - make big moves, gut the farm system to add a SP and a couple relivers - WS probability - 25% Option B - make small moves, hope to catch lightning in a bottle - WS probability - 10% Option C - selectively be sellers (Jansen, Teo, Gurriel, Stripling, Biggio, Chapman, Phelps, Cimber, Garcia) - PS probability - 75% - WS probability - 5%

Never will happen, save for Jansen to improve the team.

I recognize it's a challenging move and the players/fans would hate it. Unfortunately a ton of our prospects have been brutal this year and their value must have dipped as a result. Emptying the farm system even further hoping to find the 2021 version of Eddie Rosario / Joc Pederson / Solar just seems like fools gold though.

Toronto's in the thick of this, they'll be buying. Unless something goes drastically wrong in the next few weeks on top of our current issues.

Unless something goes drastically wrong in the next few weeks on top of our current issues. In the thick of what? Making the playoffs as a WC team? or in the thick of it to be WS champions? With 6 teams per league making the playoffs - being in the thick of it to make the playoffs doesn't mean what it once did. If you're a .500 team now you're 'in the thick of it' to make the playoffs. Unfortunately, selling for arms is one of the hardest things in baseball to do. Arms are super costly and very volatile. This is a really s***** position to be in.

It is a crossroads for this Mgm. We squandered 2021 and burned a year. Will they go for it, be half pregnant, or fiddle f*** around in the bargain bin?

Jays ultimately need 3 horses rolling into the PS... you think this is a 500 team going forward? I agree it sucks, lets see what they do. But this team's a contender, no doubt.

I think the Jays are somewhere in the middle of STL, SD, MIL, BOS, TB and MIN. Unfortunately with Berrios and Kikuchi s***ing the bed, injuries to Ryu and Pearson and regression by Vlad, Bo, Teo, Romano, etc. - I just don't think it's our year. You'll have to mortgage the future AND get lucky to truly be a contender IMO.

I expect regression in the second half to what was expected and projected coming into the season. No biggie, bro. We'll see what they do soon enough.
Benito Verified Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 I would add that with almost half the season left to play, there's plenty of time for under performing players like Berrios, Vlad, Bo, Teo and others to return to what they produced last season. Teams have been in worst positions than TO and turned it around in the second half. I don't think the FO will mortgage the future. It doesn't seem to be their MO. But I expect them be buyers.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 I’m not entirely sure what mortgage the future means or at least I dont understand why it’s a negative thing. Every team mortgages the future but some teams have more to mortgage lol. If we are in a real dogfight for the third wild card spot at the deadline, then they will be heavy buyers. We signed gausman, berrios and springer to big deals. We gave up big assets to get berrios even if they are scuffling now in the twins system. The appropriate response to needing to improve to just make the playoffs with that in mind is to mortgage the future. If we have 90% playoff odds, then we won’t . It’s kind of as simple as that, right? And, if we are like 9 games back at the deadline somehow, we sell guys with short control and relievers. I don’t understand how this isn’t just math.
Bilal40 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Corrupt montoyo keeps giving good hitters in his lineup days off for no reason. They are not injured. Yesterday game he gave both Guerrero and gurriel a day off. Corrupt montoyo keeps giving especially chapman and gurriel many days off. Now today he gives springer a day off. Montoyo is like that moron gibbons. Don't tell me the jays won 91 games last season because last season does not count for the bluejays. Last season was an abnormal and weird season for the bluejays. The jays played 80 percent of their home games in minor league ball parks in buffalo and in Florida. It is very easy to hit in minor league ball parks.

It is that simple.
