Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Looks like the starters are set for tomorrow: McClanahan v Gausman Rasmussen v Hatch
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Just watched a video of Russel Martin tribute for Canada Day. Choked me up. What a career. Classy move by Jays. Martin hugely underrated. #55 with a massive 55 career fWAR and his jersey belongs in the HOF.

Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Hatch is confirmed for tomorrow. I know people want to see Castillo, but this might be better for him. It kind of tells me that they might see him as a possible long man this year, and if he does well start next year. Or stripling role next year. That’s higher than spot starter on the heirarchy, right?

Hopefully he does well tomorrow though (2020 throwback) 'cause while Rasmussen hasn't been lights out this year, he always finds a way to do well against Jays.

I’m interested to see how’s he’s used and how quick the hook is. Him and Lawrernce 3 innings each would have been interesting.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Suddenly the Rays are only 4 games over 500 Wow
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Cavan Biggio July 1st owns a 133 wRC+

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Jays get Anthony Banda. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/anthony-banda-607455?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb Some things to like there. Some gross things.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 He has a 89 stuff + and a 103 location plus, which doesn’t seem super ideal.

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 (edited) He has a 89 stuff + and a 103 location plus, which doesn’t seem super ideal. These are the risks Rays take and try and turn them around. So hope it works out. Of course they take risks by signing into minors but he has some interesting stuff and 0 options + cheap, so maybe can find something for him whenever we have a blowout. --- Also RE: Rays Yes they do have good pitching scouting, but if you think about it - we have really good bat scouting/development (that they don't have, three injuries and their entire offense is in the drain, incredibly thin), and we got Espinal (a prospect not even on the top 100 for sox when we traded Pearce for him) and look how he's turning out. --- I also hope we don't trade Tiedemann, his stuff looks Shane McClanahan-esque. I’m not sure where I heard this but I think the rays do this thing with relief pitching where they get guys with good stuff plus big injury risk and just figure that if they get enough of them someone will always be healthy. It doesn’t cost 40 man spots to have someone on the 60 day IL. They are also prepared to pay real value to get those guys. I think our hitting dev and scouting is top notch. Focusing on hit tool and character works imo. One thing the rays do that I wish we would do (but I understand why we don’t … it could be incredibly unpopular) is trade good late 20s big leaguers while they are competing. The rays won 90 games the year they sold on archer. I think you have to be willing to sell big leaguers to leave yourself open to franchise defining rip off deals.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Since Maximo Castillo was sent down to the minors yesterday before Game 2, does he have to stay down in the minors for a certain amount of days before getting called up again?

It appears as though he will have to remain down for 10 days unless somebody goes onto the injured list.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 It appears as though he will have to remain down for 10 days unless somebody goes onto the injured list. Thanks. Asking because I know it was a doubleheader yesterday and thought maybe would have been different based on the circumstances. Though if someone does go on the IL, they could call him back up no problem.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Very Sad news. Was this why all coaches met yesterday during the game? That's horrible Ned's man
