He was, and ran like a gazelle. He made hard plays look easy.

Dude never had to dive. Never. Was always able to run it down.

This probably comes down to the Rockies were the only team willing to trade for Grichuk

Usually I’m trolling but I genuinely think he may be decent fantasy guy this year. Useful at least

lol... I'm a Grichuk fanboy and wouldn't want anything to do with him.

.800 OPS or above. Respectable counting stats

Nah, his OBP, squashes those ratio's. I've given up on that dream, what counting stats, HR's?

.800 OPS is his demonstrated top range upside outside of Coors amigo.

I'll give Grant credit on Tapia's defense, he really doesn't get good reads off the bat, and takes porous routes on balls, this is at least coachable. As is launch angle, etc... we'll see. The Rockie's really are a terribly run org.

The guy is 28 and has been around for parts of 6 MLB seasons. I don't see him suddenly learning how to play the outfield. He has all of 0.2 fWAR over 1425 PA and 439 games and will be making $4M this year - they could have instead gotten a league minimum replacement level 4th OFer and have over $3M left to help bolster the BP. I would rather the Jays had traded Grichuk for a bucket of spit than this dud.

This thread is loaded with two of the most exhausting board traits around:

1. Grant's long, drawn out argument.

2. Some paranoid fear that Montoyo is going to misuse this guy somehow.

Just say you don't like his negro blond hairstyle and be done with it.

I, for one, look forward to seeing what Tapia can do. The team hasn't had a guy like this since Rajai Davis and I enjoyed watching him play, specifically on the basepaths, even if he made some boneheaded plays on the field.

I think his hair is dope as f***, and I still worry that Montoyo is going to have him leading off 4 times a week.

Though, I am cautiously optimistic that getting him away from the Rockies could turn him into something that's about on par with Grichuk.

That couldn't be more false from what I have seen. Tapia is worse than Jonathan Villar on the base paths. Very fast, but also very stupid.

I guess I should have elaborated instead of simply bolding the misinformation in your quote.

Tapia is a very fast and very bad baserunner, much like Jonathan Villar, who also has a positive BsR. I didn't compare him to Grichuk or suggest that he wasn't more valuable in that regard.

He's going to be used in pinch running situations here and you will see a boneheaded runner that makes some spectacular plays along with getting picked off at inopportune times and running into outs. He's done one of those things almost every time I watch and he's absolutely notorious for it in Colorado.

Your premise is that I don't believe that BsR statistics are accurate?

I guess you have to come up with some sort of lie to create your fanciful stories, but that was never said and certainly isn't true. Tapia is extremely fast and that is borne out in the numbers.

I'm sorry that you wasted so much time responding to something that was never said. Creating false statements and responding to them as if the other person actually said those things is extremely cowardly.

At least Olerud does this in an openly trolling manner. It's fortunate that others on this forum don't have to deal with dishonest scumbags like you in real life.

This has to be a joke correct? It seems nearly impossible for a person to respond like this to an ass-whupping in a serious fashion. You repeatedly stated that Tapia is a bad baserunner, the only fabrications occurring here are you denying what you said after being proven to be completely incorrect.

Grant is too small to admit a mistake.

The next steps:

1. Grant calls you a cowardly liar for misrepresenting his posts. You see, his main argument was that Tapia gets picked off AT INOPPORTUNE TIMES.

2. TL digs into the data and finds that every out Tapia has made on the bases has been in close and late situations, with his family in the crowd, on Sunday Night Baseball.

3. Grant calls TL a name or two and says he's being misrepresented.

We have to remember Grant is smarter than everyone, including the Jays FO in its collective entirety. Edited by Jimcanuck

My hair comment was to point out that those people attributing negative traits to him like he's dumb while knowing literally nothing about the man personally would be less likely to attribute those negative traits to him if he appeared as straight-laced as an army sergeant.

As for him leading off, it would be awesome if he actually earned the position through performance. If he has 1993 Devon White level of production while being a stolen base threat, that's a pretty good fit for this team. Yeah White batting first wasn't the optimal lineup configuration for the 1993 team, but it wasn't a horrible decision either. Otherwise, I'm fine with him as a 4th OF batting 9th if the team fails to get anything extra out of him.

The next step in this process, is Grant staying off the board for a few days, waiting for the thread to die down a bit, then come back and bump it with some kind of half-handed backtracking where he acknowledges that the real numbers MAY indicate otherwise, but because they don't match with his eye test, the numbers just don't tell the whole story.

If he's used correctly, I honestly think he'll be a great addition to the team. I don't trust Montoyo to use anyone correctly; more often than not that has saved me a lot of frustration.
