Tim Cooke Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Another wow! The Orioles shouldÂ’ve just brought him up on day one if this is the case. Crazy not to actually He got hurt the day before MLB Spring Training opened this year. So that couldn't happen.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Yeah Rutschman would have been day 1 if not for a legitimate injury so the O's kind of sort of did not lose anything... kind of. The lost the opportunity to use the injury as a windfall to get an extra year of control, basically.

So the O's should have put Rutschman on the major league IL, the games he played in the minors amounted to pretty much a rehab stint.

Maybe but if he wasn't on the 40 man that means they had to make a 40 man decision earlier. Maybe they thought that they would do it this way and then if he does NOT have a ROY type season they do get that windfall extra year of control...

Most catchers don't hit the road running and kill it in Year 1 like Rutschman just did. It was a calculated risk that failed (good for Jays, bad for O's)

It was a calculated risk that failed (good for Jays, bad for O's) Unfortunately for us it's looking like he's the new Buster Posey. wRC+ for Posey was 134, for Rut is was 133. Posey had 4 WAR in 108 games, Rut had 5.3 in 113. The O's are on the rise and will be playoff contenders for the foreseeable future.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Shocked Tyler Anderson with a QO attached got a 3-year/$40 million deal this early but hey its the Angels. Not shocked to see Perez and Pederson accept. If they go out and have solid seasons in 2023, with no strings attached, they both can likely get 2-3 year deals after from a team.

I'm more worried about the Orioles moving forward than the Yankees. Also, never count out the Rays and we all know Boston overnight can go for a last place team in the division to first place if they spend money to overhaul the roster.

I was thinking the same thing, O's over Yankees. But thought it sounded silly. They seemed to follow the Astros gameplan of scorched earth. They have next to 0 payroll commitments moving forward, and used to be a top 10 payroll team. I would not be surprised in the least to see them sign a couple top tier free agents.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Verlander wants a Scherzer contract 2 years 75/80 million? Get it done Atkins! Jays luck he'd blow his elbow first start and retire. Sign somewhere else... win 2 Cy Youngs.

Sign somewhere else... win 2 Cy Youngs. That was 3/130 Astros owner Jim Crane on MLB.com: Crane said Verlander is seeking a deal similar to Max Scherzer, who signed a three-year, $130 million contract with the Mets a year ago. Crane said he hopes the absence of a state income tax in Texas will give the Astros an edge. “I know him well, so we’ve been pretty candid,” Crane said. “He’s looking at the comp, which I think there’s only one or two. … J.V.’s probably got a few years left, and he wants to make the most of it. I think he’s going to test the market on that.” https://www.mlb.com/news/astros-owner-jim-crane-plans-long-gm-search?partnerID=mlbapp-iOS_article-share

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 (edited) Verlander wins Cy Young unanimously. Good I feared someone from our idiot media would vote Manoah or something. I can’t believe that idiot Ben Nicholson-Smith absolutely robbed J-Rod of unanimous voting. So embarrassed about that. Edited November 17, 2022 by Jonn

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Who did he vote for? Adley Rutschman.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Rutschman and Rodriguez had the same WAR. A vote for the former is perfectly reasonable.

I can’t believe that idiot Ben Nicholson-Smith absolutely robbed J-Rod of unanimous voting. So embarrassed about that. Adley Rutschman accumulated 5.3 fWAR in 113 GP. Julio Rodriguez accumulated the same in 132 GP. It's absolutely defensible that he voted for him. How often do you see a C prospect come up and be amazing instantly? We were spoiled with Kirk and, to an extent, Moreno (super small sample) but they bust or struggle for years before putting it together (Jansen) usually.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Youmans says he hopes that Judge, the Yankees, or National Baseball Hall of Fame purchase the ball through the auction, which he feels is the most diplomatic path. "It seems fair in the sense it gives anyone that is interested and has the means the opportunity to own it," Youmans said of the choice. "As a fan, I'm curious to see what it's worth, who buys it and what they do with it." Guy that caught Judge’s ball trying to make himself out to be this caring fan. Just be honest and be like “how am I going to pass up $3m”.. Apparently he’s already turned down $3m

You don’t get rewarded enough for being a good person in life. He would have what shook Judge’s hand. Get a picture of him and go back to his mediocre life and never be heard from again. When you have a chance to change your life you take it. Money is the majority of peoples stress.
