Hope he continues to play after this season. Go for the all-time record haha.

At least surpassing the babe would make it extra special...

Now all we need is Pujols to hit a big walkoff homer in the playoffs and his year will have been perfect

Cardinals win World Series. +1400 odds, doesn't hurt to bet them!

I thought he had no chance to get there back in the spring. Amazing.

Is there a St. Louis broadcast for this homerun?

Yeah they played it on MLB network. Its their radio guy overlayed with the Apple video.

Pretty cool about Albert. I don't know if anyone else feels this way but the whole Bonds-McGwire-Sosa thing has kind of messed up the enjoyment of Judge HR watch for me.

I was so into the big 3 breaking records, but then it all became a 'roids shemozzle. We all knew they were juicing at the time post strike.

We'll never know if early in his career Albert juiced. A lot did and never got caught publicly. Some are now in the HOF - Piazza, Pudge, Bagwell etc. Papi was named.

Bonds is still the best hitter I've ever seen. No need for asterisks. Stick him in the HOF.

The excitement is a level below what was going on with the big 3 so some of the shine is off the apple with what Judge is doing. What is interesting about Pujols is that I don’t think we’re going to see anyone in the 700 club for a long, long time. Maybe ever. I mean no active player will be able to reach 700. Maybe Trout if he has 9 consecutive healthy years in a row cranking out 40 per season but that isn’t going to happen. This milestone may never be reached again. This is historic for more than one reason.

I expect we will see someone the size of Judge or bigger come along, who stays healthy, and hit 50 every year for 15 or more years. A guy like ONeil Cruz, with a better hit tool.

Out of players who are close, Trout probably has the only realistic shot, though even still he needs to double his career HR total to reach 700. If he stays healthy and plays for another 11-12 more seasons averaging between 30-35 HR per season, he has a chance.

Otherwise, the only other bets maybe would be Arenado, Harper and Machado given their age, though even still 700 seems like a very far reach for all three of them. Stanton is at 375 though I don't have any confidence in him returning to an elite HR bat and staying healthy. Though you never know, if Stanton plays until he's 41 or 42 and keeps cranking out 30+ HR's despite other poor offensive numbers for another decade, he might come close.

I think some of the younger bats like Julio Rodríguez or even Vladdy have more of a realistic chance if they stay healthy and crank out 30-40 HR's per season.

Yeah likely has to be a new prospect who comes along, gets called up at an early age around 20-21 and rakes from Day One.

Maybe Julio Rodríguez especially if he has a couple big 40 HR seasons or maybe Vladdy if he returns to his 2021 form moving forward.

I can see Soto morphing into a 1B that hits 50 a year. He's only 23 still

If he plays another season, he'll definitely surpass the Babe. Aaron and Bonds would be tough and likely would require playing another 2 or 3 more seasons at this current high level which I see difficult.

I think he's in a perfect situation in St. Louis though. They benefit bringing him back as a bench bat/occasional DH/veteran presence who starts maybe 2 or 3 times per week. Pujols benefits since he's with a great organization and would have a nice easy gig at his age in terms of staying fresh and healthy.

Yeah forgot about Soto. I definitely give him a mulligan this season. He's at 124 HR but yeah needs to crank out a couple of 40-50 HR seasons which he has the potential to do. If he does, he'll be close.

Trout doing 9x 40 with zero decline? Can’t see it.

That's awesome

Another round of “what would you do”. Guy that caught it likely Googling all the auction houses this morning, getting estimates

Trout would probably have to move to 1B/DH like Albert moved from 3B. The wear and tear of OF D won't help Trout get close to 700.

Would sell it... 100%. THat's life changing money. I'd love to be able to sit here and say as a baseball fan I would give it up to Albert or the HOF for something cool in return, but.... nope. That's retiring right now and moving to a tropical island for the rest of my life without worries.
