Brutal. Hang em up Joey, no amount of tinkering can fix this.

$32m on the books after this year. He’ll play it out. Who is going to own up to their “trade for Joey Votto” posts this off-season? I saw of few of them

Jeez imagine if we had done that. People here would be screaming about him sucking. We have enough people complaining about Chapman and he’s been decent

Chap has been the big upgrade on D that wasn’t really in doubt. Jays could’ve used another stick. I wanted Freeman, but I also would’ve been just as happy with giving up major assets for Ketel. Wouldn’t be looking good on the latter to this point

How did Joey Votto put up a 3.7 WAR last season?

If the Reds paid for most of his salary and wasn't a high asset cost for the Jays to acquire, Votto would have been a nice bat to have at DH. Hitting at this ballpark and in this lineup, maybe he doesn't get off to such a horrid start. He loves Cincy though and probably wants to finish off his career there. I don't think he ever expressed a desire or want to play for his home team, even during his prime years.

Doesn't make sense. The Reds org is a joke.

As long as Chap provides elite level D and a 4+ WAR, I don't care if he only hits .220-.230 with 25-30 HR's. I think he definitely is capable of more if he gets on a roll and finds a comfort level. If he hit 36 HRs in Oakland, 40 is possible here at the Rogers Centre. Overall, all offensive numbers are down all across baseball so doubt it will be this season.

I’d imagine he gets trolled on Twitter, or wherever? I remember the post here of him dressing up like Harry Potter or something. You’d imagine he gets lots of comments like: “how about you stop dressing up like Harry Potter and get in the cages, you’re a disgrace to baseball” etc.

I guess if you’re a pro athlete it rolls off you though

The Reds were only real contenders in 2010 and 2012/2013. Otherwise the organization has been horrible. Shocked he never demanded a trade. He would have been a beautiful fit on the Jays during the 2015 and 2016 season! But yeah I don't think he has ever had any desire to play for another organization outside of the Reds. Even if it meant being traded to a team like the Blue Jays, his home town team, and possible World Series contender.

Votto got his american citizenship this offseason. He's abandoning us.

I'll never forget the bomb he hit in the World Baseball Classic v. the US at the Dome. It was f***ing incredible to see live. It was a while back, but I think the live atmosphere was right up there with the EE walk off in the 2016 WC game v. Baltimore for me.

MadBum ejected for sticky stuff after the first inning. Moron broadcasters are comparing and complaining that they checked MadBum's hands longer than they did the other starter....yeah no s*** - after you feel something sticky, you're probably going to continue feeling it to double check and make sure before you toss the guy.

Clevinger was looking good through 4 innings, than kind of hit a wall here in the 5th. Padres should be happy with his first appearance back from Tommy John.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy

He didn't get ejected for sticky stuff

He had an issue with the strike zone in the first. On his way to the dugout/hand check he said a few words to the home plate ump. Gets to the 1st base ump who instead of checking his hands like normal, holds his hand for a long time and stares at Madbum not looking at his hands while "checking" them. Then when done Madbum said something like get the f back to 1st and got thrown out for it.
