It needs to some major work IMO but I bet they can pull off some cool upgrades.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 Last estimates had real grass renovations to cost around 10 million... so please let that be part of it. PLEASE Yeah they said they want to turn it into a more baseball specific venue so surely that's on the agenda. Grass is a key issue, but so is the fact that the outside of it looks like s*** and the inside feels so closed off. While Minute Maid Park isn't so great itself (especially for being newer) it is a lot better than RC so I wonder if they could use it as a model of sorts. Reducing a bunch of OF bleachers and adding a bunch glass would be a good start.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 10M, lmfao? No way man. Far far far more money. Sorry, 10M annually. Not total. The upfront cost would be significant
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Fixing up Skydome is a good idea... no need to relocate (hopefully). Fix the grass, seating inside and make the outside look like a ballpark. Boom!
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Even if they wanted to build a new stadium, where would make sense?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Even if they wanted to build a new stadium, where would make sense? I know for a long time they were looking at the old Maclean Hunter building at Yonge and the 401, but I'm fairly sure that's been turned into condos now, like every square millimetre of space in the GTA these days.

I heard Lakeshore again?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Don't even care about real grass anymore. Just make the seats better
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Don't even care about real grass anymore. Just make the seats better There was 2 things I noticed right away when I watched my one game there. Why are the seats along the third base line pointed at the RF wall instead of more towards the plate? And where the f*** are the cupholders?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Don't even care about real grass anymore. Just make the seats better They've already turned them towards the plate, I'm sure this season will be good.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Grass is never happening in the RC.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Grass is never happening in the RC. I agree. And I am noticing that other MLB clubs are starting to consider artificial turf. The new stuff is pretty amazing.
Stottlemyres_Bloody_Chin Verified Member Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The new turf is as good or better than grass. The idea that turf is bad for players is no longer true.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The entire $250M is going to be used to remove the foul odor from Beest's former office. I know they have talked about the concourse being a priority a couple years ago...but opening it up will be so difficult. Better connections to the upper and lower decks is what Cleveland is starting this off season, would that even be possible in Toronto? You can guarantee that there will be some sort of higher end baseball "experience" created from an upgrade. Boxes are boring now, you need white linen experiences (Toronto is L.A. jr. now)
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 This plan better include cupholders on every seat.

Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 So Rogers is spending 90 million less for stadium renovations than what the Padres will be paying Tatis in his contract?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 They'll build the "Dominic Dunne" bar. They're also going to sign Tiny Tim for one save opportunity, which he'll convert. They'll then rebrand the 500 level concourse as a nudist retreat to make Hurl feel better while doing his lap.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 Any thoughts on what this might include? They’ll make the first 5-10 rows dugout to dugout like the in the action seats are is my guess. Think new yankee stadium with the Legends seats. They’ll try and get all these corporates to pay $300 a seat or something ridiculous. They already tried this with the “ticketmaster lounge” and fell flat on their face barely being able to sell any tickets at all. What they should do is reduce the capacity to 34-37k, rip out a lot of the 500 level and make more “flight deck like group bar areas”. At the same time space out the seats in the 100 level more with bigger seats plus more aisles.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 Yeah, it's going to be all about going after the 'whales'. Screw the little guy and give the rich people a chance to show off their overpriced seats on Instagram.

Please spend the entire $250M on the fans and their ballpark experiences I'd rather spend the 250M on players tbh lol. A winning product will always attract fans. A losing product will not no matter how nice the park is.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 So Rogers is spending 90 million less for stadium renovations than what the Padres will be paying Tatis in his contract? The idea is that these renovations will translate to more premium revenue (i.e. corporate revenue, ballpark attractions), which I’m sure would be used to extend Vladdy/Bo and payroll in general.

A losing product will not no matter how nice the park is. $300 / seat vs. $75 / seat is the idea here. The TV revenue is more or less fixed, Jays revenue increase opportunities are the park and merchandising, mainly. One time capital investments should in no way affect the player salary budget.

Sure, but Rogers is publicly traded company, so it's a bit different than all the other privately owned teams. When they drop 250 million, it has the potential to drop the share price.
