BTS Community Moderator Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Yup. Unless they come up with an agreement tomorrow out of the blue, this lockout is going to last longer now. Even if they somehow agreed on all the topics (CBT, pre arb, etc), soon they'll have to figure out how 2022 salaries and service time will be distributed for less than 162 games. Hint: owners will want prorated salaries, players will want full salaries, and more s*** to have to work out. Losing games because of the QO is insane to me. I can't even wrap my head around that. It's not even the QO over the entire term of the CBA. It's one season of the QO. Under the owner proposal, they just keep the QO and scrap the international draft. Under the player proposal they scrap the QO for one year, then bring it back if (but really when) they don't agree to an international draft by November. Absolute madness.

Now the owners will use full 162 pay for the players as a bargaining chip to get 14 team playoffs… so predictable watch
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Now the owners will use full 162 pay for the players as a bargaining chip to get 14 team playoffsÂ… so predictable watch At some point if enough games are lost there will be teams that have lost enough revenue that if they have to pay for 162 games they won't make any money and they will just say screw it. Let's not have a season. It only takes 8 teams to feel this way, that the offers are overly generous and the prospect of break even or losses aren't worth it to give in to s***** terms in their opinion. It's a big game of chicken. How do you get this close and not finish the deal. Maybe they need a mediator.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I was 100% on #TeamPlayers until today, but this was honestly about as good an offer as they could have expected. I don't know where the owners could realistically move from here...
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 f*** THE PLAYERS ****s Dude the players weren't the side that initiated a lockout and waited until the last possible moment to finally get serious about negotiating. There's plenty of blame to go around to both sides here.

I don't know where the owners could realistically move from here... Next week will be big. I guess they will tweak on these offers and come up with something both sides begrudgingly agree on... Then the owners will implement a 152 game season with 10 games missed pay. Then the players will probably reject that and demand the 10 games pay, and then another week of games get cancelled. Then how does it end if the owners won't pay the players for missed games? Today might have been the end. Not to be a negative Nancy but I don't seem them agreeing on the pay for missed games, if they can't agree on the little stuff. Then how does it ever come back? I guess the Union completely broken some players break ranks in 2023 maybe. I don't know.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Agree with the "f*** the players" notion. To continue the lockout on such minor details at this point is pathetic. f*** them and I hope they get screwed very hard now.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 What is the date that would get a 130 game season in? We all know that is about when it gets signed.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 My recommendation is to stop caring and it'll sting a whole lot less. The PGA season is into its best stretch now with THE PLAYERS Championship this week and all four majors coming up in April through July. It's time to get really into golf, everyone. Next problem.

F1 is the next best thing! - Season starts in a week; - Massive growth in NA over the past few years with Drive to Survive attracting new fans (new season out tomorrow to get you up to speed); - Awesome coverage of the drivers and getting to know the behind the scenes rivalries; - Early Sunday morning races great for those with kids; - New cars this year can lead to surprises (maybe even some parity); - Massive drama from the end of last year to carry over I'm a new fan and absolutely love it now. Highly recommend.

MLB as a whole are living in a bubble world but the players are really behaving like pompous ****s right now, zero grip on reality.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Don't the players need a 50% +1 vote to make this happen? I can't imagine that more than 14 player reps/teams would be that worried about an international draft. Of course, since they're doing everything in the stupidest possible way, it's probably not a secret ballot, so everyone could be worried about pissing other players off...

The MLB has to be 23 teams, maybe the players have a similar number, but that's just me guessing. Idk.

As long as Tony Clark is involved, "stupidest possible way" is a given for any decision the MLBPA makes.

jerb Verified Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan There is an agreement on the international draft, a source tells ESPN. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan MLB and the MLBPA agreed that they have until July 25 to reach a deal on an international draft that would start in 2024, a source tells ESPN. If a deal is reached, the qualifying offer will vanish. If no deal, the QO will return and the international system will remain the same.
jerb Verified Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Ben Nicholson-Smith @bnicholsonsmith Now, MLBPA is awaiting a full counter from MLB. Players made full proposal at 1pm yesterday per PA.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Damn sounds like we’re actually close here. I won’t have to watch Golf or F1!
