I wonder if Marcus was able to get the $200 million deal he was after. I sure as s*** wouldn't pay that for him but he's good enough that he might actually provide close to that value over the length of his contract.

$25 million for the next 7 years. I would say that’s pretty fair. The length I wouldn’t like but clearly they needed the years to get him. I doubt the Jays we’re willing to go over 5.

I thought a 5/125 deal was great for us but it may have taken 6/150 to get him like Springer. 7/175 is clearly the Texas penalty that only applies to them

I don't know what long term deals Semien was being offered as a free agent after the 2020 season, but turning whatever that was into 8/193 (his 2021 deal + this deal) is remarkable for him. Knew his value and played free agency perfectly. No chance the Jays were going 7 years. This was probably the longest deal he was going to get from a team.

When have those years been? I recall quite a few free agent signings or win-now trades throughout the history of this team. Just because they don't work out doesn't mean they didn't try. Yeah okay a couple years of Ricciardi's tenure were pretty rough but that was it.

I don’t know what to tell those people then. Ownership has committed to spending more than last year and they’ve played at the top of the FA market the last two winters

There's plenty of up the middle value to be had in FA or Trades, Jays focus should be Bullpen and Starters.
