Ray to Seattle

5 years 115M

It’s a five-year deal worth $115MM and an opt-out after the third season, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that the contract includes a full no-trade clause in the first two seasons and a trade assignment bonus if he’s moved thereafter.

Ah probably the opt-out that did it then. I know the Jays FO doesn’t like those opt-out deals.

Maybe, it's hard to know the whole process that he went through with the Jays and other teams, like timing, when they talked, what was on the table when... once Gausman signed it was pretty obvious he wasn't coming back here, but for all we know that ship might have sailed a week ago.

Tell me if you've seen this before: superstar shortstop signs a massive (probably ill advised) contract with the Texas Rangers with the team in shambles.

325M for an injury-prone player entering his age-28 season who hasn't even had a 4-win season since 2017. This is one of those 'albatross the moment the ink dries' situations.

Can't wait to see what the Dodgers do. Scherzer, Seager, and maybe Taylor out, and 2-3 comp picks in. They'll be looking to replace the lost talent.

The big winner in all this is the Padres. Dodgers lose, and the Rangers lose bigly.

FTJ's deal looking like a steal ATM.

What an odd offseason. Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox all quiet thus far.

Mariners, Jays, Mets, Rangers making the big splashes so far.

No teams will trade for him anyways

Nice of the Rangers to throw in a little party money.

Also lol @ the Rangers spending all this money even though everyone around Seager, Gray, and Semien are certified scrubs. Gonna be an expensive 75 win team.

They literally have zero other good players. It's going tio be Seager, Semien, Gray, and a handful of guys projected for 1-2 WAR. They don't even have a great farm. This is one if the worst rebuilds ever.

Rangers just spent $500M on two position players on crazy term length while their opening day starter could be John Gray.

Angels 2.0

Why wouldn't the Rangers at least show they've a half decent team first before shelling out all this cash? What a stupid franchise lol.

Definitely feels like an alternate universe. Cherry on top would be Correa to the Tigers for 300mil

When an owner won’t just sit back and let his GM work. Always gotta meddle. Arte Moreno wasted one of the greatest players of our generation

Actually possibly 2

The s***** part of the Rangers spending stupidly is that there are 2 less targets for us. We're actually trying to win something while I have no clue wtf the Rangers think they're doing.

We only have $15M more committed for 2022 than the Rangers ($140M for us vs. $125M for them) and we are leagues better off than them.

I think they've realized they've semi-botched their rebuild, so they're trying to be respectable by spending a ton of money. Jung looks kinda good, but that's it. Don't think they sniff the playoffs still though.
