harvey16 Verified Member Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 This will be the first time since the 6 division format started in 1994 that 4 teams from the same division win 90+ games and only the second time in MLB history (happened in 1978 with 7 teams in the AL East). I will argue that the 2021 AL East is the best division in MLB history. Crazy to think a team with 91 wins might miss the playoffs, hopefully not the Jays. https://baseballcloud.blog/2021/09/24/divisional-diversity-4-90-win-teams-2-100-win-teams-0-90-win-teams/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=divisional-diversity-4-90-win-teams-2-100-win-teams-0-90-win-teams
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Yankees haven't been great this year. Red Sox haven't been great this year. O's are horrible.

Yankees and Red Sox could finish with 92 wins, Jays could finish with 91. 4 teams with 90+ wins in the same division, and they've been facing off against each other all season. 4 teams in the top 9 in MLB from the same division. Not to mention, teams like Milwaukee, Chicago and Houston have benefited from easier schedules.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Yankees haven't been great this year. Red Sox haven't been great this year. O's are horrible. Nonsense take. Look at run differentials of the Rays, Yanks, Bosox, and Jays, and re-evaluate. I'll make it easier. 4 of the top 8 run differentials in MLB (30 teams) are in the AL East.

And then I said that the Yankees and Red Sox have not been "great." Do you consider a team with a +78 or +41 run differential a great team?

And then I said that the Yankees and Red Sox have not been "great." Do you consider a team with a +78 or +41 run differential a great team? Nobody asked if these teams were all great. The question was as a group is the division the greatest of all time? With four 90+ win teams with a collective +500-ish run differential, I would have to say they right up there without a doubt.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Simple. Add up all the wins and losses of each division. Add up the run differential. Now average those stats among the number of teams in each division. Now go back to 1969 and do that for every division and season. Rank them all and there is your answer.
