Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Gurriel hand not broken. Xrays clear. Got two stitches Way better than it could have been. But he probably won’t be able to hold a bat for a couple of days.
Cynical Verified Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 The Jays play like basketball teams that live and die by the 3. If they're hot, they score 20 runs. If they're not, they can't hit anyone. They pad their stats in specific games where they kill teams and then go cold for long stretches. This team hits like a young inexperienced team even though they have a ton of dangerous hitters.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Piece of good news. Thanks. Stitches on his mid finger 3 of them, he's f***ed.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 At the least 3 weeks. What? He'll play in the Yankees series.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 What? He'll play in the Yankees series. I don’t think so but we’ll see. Gonna be hard to swing a bat with stitches in your finger and having them possibly rip open every swing
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 If they can get Springer in the outfield and have Kirk DH that would definitely help mitigate the loss of Gurriel
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 What? He'll play in the Yankees series. lulz... it'll take a long time bud

Gonna be hard to swing a bat with stitches in your finger and having them possibly rip open every swing Only took 2 stitches to close it, sounds like a small nick. Probably just more sore then anything, since it was stepped on with cleats. Whenever the bruising/swelling goes away he'll be good to go.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 lulz... it'll take a long time bud Lol 3 weeks for a little cut on the finger. This is a post season run, he'll be back as soon as the pain and any swelling is gone. It's on the back of the hand, not where he grips a bat or ball.

Exactly, some people acting like he had a cut to the damn bone. Wouldn't surprise me to see him DH this weekend if Springer can play CF.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 What? He'll play in the Yankees series. For a right handed batter the left hand has more pressure on the bat. He got the stitches on his right. I agree. He should be Dhing for the Yankee series if Springer can play center.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him DH this weekend if Springer can play CF. Reason for the concern on the field and walking off the way that he did is that they were concerned of broken bones. A lot of little bones in the hand, and it's not good if they start shifting around.

Yes of course, there was serious concern when the injury happened but now that we know its just a minor cut and no broken bones, he probably sits today and is back in the lineup tomorrow. Now IS the time to play through these types of things. If it gets worse who cares, he has 4 months to let it heal.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Merryweather since coming off the IL: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 HR, 3 BB, 1 K, 8.44 ERA, 11.79 FIP, 7.80 xFIP Kinda liked him better when he was great but never saw the field.

Literally 2 completely different players in his April stint vs now. It would help a lot if he gave us something at all.

Yeah he doesn't look good. Even with great stuff it is very tough to miss most of the year and then show up with spotty command while all of the opposing hitters are locked in from months of timing practice. Pearson is having similar results. Merryweather's velo is down a bit from the spring.

Pearsons been solid since coming back, xBA of 0.217, 34% K rate, BB rate is high at 9% but you can live with that if he keeps missing bats like he is. Just some s***** luck and control issues. Merryweather though...Yikes!
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I know this is a broken record lately, but again the top 3 missed calls in terms of changing run expectancy went against the Jays.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Did Merryweather change his delivery? Something's different besides the moustache and s***** #'s so far.

If that's the case then yeah I could see him back soon. I figured the injury was on his finger, which would be a lot harder to deal with.
