I'm glad he did it as well. I hate the unwritten rules when it is stupid stuff like swinging 3-0 with a 6 run lead, or other nonsense like that. This was a completely different story. Well deserved beaning, and Borucki threw it in the right spot where it wouldn't cause damage. A suspension for Charlie would just be icing on the cake.

Do you think this action would prevent KK or any other Tampa player (or anyone else in the league) from doing it again? Does the threat of being hit with a baseball in a spot that won't cause damage even make them think twice? If not - what's the f***ing point?

So you're saying they should have went head hunting and tried to do some real damage.

You're aware hockey's a high contact sport that allows fighting?

It doesn't allow fighting. Fighting is a penalty. Do you also consider boarding and hitting from behind to be 'allowed'? Fighting is just allowed in the sense you don't get kicked out of the game (at the NHL level). But what's your point? Are you going to suggest a player shouldn't punch someone in the face because baseball doesn't allow it? Turns out they don't allow you to purposely bean someone either.

Football is also a high contact sport and they don't need to "allow" fighting so players can 'police the game themselves' - in fact there's very little if any retaliation after unsportsmanlike celebrations (their version of a bat flip), chop blocks, helmet to helmet hits, low hits (or even just massive hits) on the QB.

I just think throwing a baseball at someone is a pussy move. I've done it several times over the years and after the adrenaline wears off, I always reflect and think - f*** what a pussy move that was. It didn't change or solve anything.

If the goal is to use violence to show the opponent that you won't stand for their unsportsmanlike behavior - then shouldn't the violence be substantial enough that the person/team would actually think twice about doing it again?

Players have thrown at each other for decades - is there any evidence that it changed players actions? Did bat flips decrease because showing off like that resulted in getting hit with a baseball? Do you think KK thought for one second that he better not grab and take that paper because the consequences outweigh the rewards? Do you think the Astros (or other cheating teams) thought that maybe they shouldn't cheat because they'll wear one in the ribs?

This has been baseballs way to 'police the league' for 100 years and, IMO, it's really ineffective....but just keep on doing it because it's tradition right? That makes sense

The only time I see it being effective is when a players actions result in one of their teammates getting hit. Nobody wants to pay the price because some ******* on your team bunted or stole a base in the 8th inning when you're winning by 10 runs. Would a teammate be OK wearing one if that piece of paper had real information that would help the Rays beat the Jays in the WC game? I suspect they would - especially when the unwritten rule is to just plunk him in the middle of the back where it doesn't do any real damage.

Having to wear a 97 MPH off the head might actually change your though process....but then again, I don't think throwing baseballs at people is the right thing to do in the first place.

It was to send a message that what he did was wrong. It wasn't meant to injure him. Just to tell him that it was a BS move. Will it prevent other players from doing it again? Probably not, but that's not the reasoning behind it.

As far as policing in other sports, it doesn't happen often in basketball because there aren't many unwritten rules, but here is one I remember off the top of my head:

You'll notice DeRozan and Tucker in this video, but Cory Joseph also tries to fling the ball at Stephenson right before that.

I'm not sure this is true. Don't score/shot with less than 24 seconds left if the game is out of reach is the same as don't bunt or steal late if you're up big. There are all kinds of showboating, trash talking and unsportsmanlike s*** that happens in basketball. Then there are the ****s who move their feet under the shooter to try and injure them.

Again - if you're message doesn't make them reconsider or change their actions - that's a pretty s***** message. I have to think reputations would actually impact a players decision more than any petty retaliation ever would. There will always be players who don't give a s*** and stay in the league because they get under players skin, but for the most part, nobody wants to be remembered as a ****.

"Not allowing fighting" in the sport would mean a suspension.

I can't believe Borucki got sent down to AAA for some bum named Jacob Barnes with a 6.18 ERA in 27 and 2/3 innings at the MLB level this season, leaving the Jays with only one lefty in their BP going forward. Is this Montoyo and Atkins' way of showing they disapprove of his plunking Kiermaier? So that's what you get for standing up for your team in 2021!? Or is this just a typical Blue Jays PC move. What a joke!!!!!!!!! I sure wouldn't want to play for those 2 clowns!

Holy assumptions.

Borucki's been awful this year. -0.3 WAR, strikeouts down, way too man walks. This move is completely justified without considering the suspension. Does Barnes suck? Yes - if you want a second lefty in the pen, I'd suggest Saucedo or Snead are ahead of Borucki.

You've seemingly generated a negative opinion about the FO based off of some bizarre correlation that Borucki was sent down as a punishment for hitting KK - one that is based off absolutely no evidence. That my friend is what's wrong with society.

Borucki was optioned for Biggio, and I agree with the rest, Saucedo or Snead... Borucki's been wild AF this season, he needs to get that fixed, I liked seeing him dial it up to 97 but his command has been HS, nothing to do with plunking KK, he's been on the roster since Friday past.

If you think you need to send a message to KK, start McGuire and when KK walks up to the plate, stand up and drive him in the face. Message sent.

Most act tough and will look like they want to fight while being held back by players/coaches - but the reality is most are pussies and don't actually want to send a message in a fair and equal manner. They'd much prefer to just throw a baseball at someone and then hide behind their teammates.

It's pretty sad that's been the acceptable practice for more than 100 years. It will probably take a major injury or death to change it unfortunately.

Could you imagine a hockey player just riffling a puck onto the opponents bench to 'send a message'?

The reality is violence is almost never needed. What do they do in football to 'send a message'? jack s***. That s*** isn't needed in sports.

Damn, that was hard to read...

Home plate umpire Tommy Connolly, noticing that Chapman was bleeding from his left ear, screamed towards the stands for a doctor. Tris Speaker, who had been on deck, rushed to Chapman, as did several players from each team. Carl Mays merely stood on the mound. Chapman tried to walk, but his knees buckled. As he was helped off the field by his teammates, he mumbled "I'm all right; tell Mays not to worry... ring....Katie's ring," before falling unconscious.[11][12] Chapman was taken to St. Lawrence Hospital, a short distance from the Polo Grounds where he died about 4:40 AM from brain damage. His pregnant wife Katie, summoned from Cleveland by phone, arrived at 10:00 a.m. and fainted on learning he had died.[1

The way I see it, as some of the members here are posting that it is no longer 'acceptable' to intentionally throw at an opposing batter. That is modern PC type mentality - the same as the type that would say don't let kids play tackle football (flag only) and no body checking in kids' hockey.

As far as Borucki being wild, sure, but I highly doubt that HBP in that situation (game out of hand, very next game after Kiermaier stole someone elses property obviously with malice) wasn't 100% intentional. My point is they sent one mediocre reliever down and brought an even worse one in Barnes up. At least Borucki gives them a second lefty. Is it a coincidence that he was sent down right after this incident? Maybe, but I think Atkins is a corporate stuffed shirt working for a woke corporation so it all seems linked to me.

BTW, now I remember why I stopped posting on here. I'll go now. Enjoy yourselves tearing up some other posters who are not in the clique.

Take care, mate. Need to be tough to survive in these parts.

Choosing not to throw at KK has nothing to do with being PC. History has proven it doesn't actually police the game and common sense suggests it's a massive pussy move. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Tough speech coming from someone with a Kristi Noem avatar.

OK I'll bite. So we are supposed to take seriously someone with a Kevin Pillar avatar!? One of the most mediocre and overrated outfielders in MLB history. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: does this new avatar suit your sensibilities better!? LOL

I don’t think anyone with actual game knowledge overrates Pillar. Casuals, sure, but they overrate anyone on their team

Pillar's defense has declined to average, to go with below average offense. The very definition of replacement player. For some reason the Mets gave him a 2022 player option at $3.3M. 2022 will be his farewell tour.
