Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Well that series was worst case scenario for us
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Well that series was worst case scenario for us f*** it. Sweep the Yankees...bitch slap the orioles and play the red sox at the Sky Dome.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Meh... at least we are chasing 2 spots instead of 1 with the Yankees winning here. We put ourselves in this spot by not being able to beat the Twins but let's get it. Yankees sweep is very doable.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 As if the Yankees just won 6 in a row. f*** Yup. f***in sucks. Redsox dropped the ball (literally) big time.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 The Yankees sweeping was the worst case scenario for the Jays. TOR is 1 game back of Boston, but it's entirely possible that the Red Sox win their next 6 games or at least go 5-1. The road is a lot tougher now, unless the Jays can sweep the Yankees.
Scion Verified Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 The Jays need to have the mind-set that they need to win out the rest of the regular season because they may have to.

They play the Orioles and Nationals in their remaining games.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Not ideal but I still don't hate their chances. Yankees will get embarrassed by the Rays to close out the season and the Sox will get Soto'd and lose 2 of 3 to Washington. I also think Boston will get Santander'd in the face and lose one to Baltimore. Red Sox - 91 wins Sweeping the Yankees would be awesome but 2 of 3 could also work.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 btw, I think Aaron Judge broke his finger last night on that slide. something to watch.

At the end of the day it’s baseball and anything can happen... Redsox looked awful this weekend. They could very well lose both series
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Yankees pretty much just need to go 3-3 and they’re in. Jays kinda need AT LEAST 4-2 these last 6 games.

The Jays need to go 5-1 at minimum. If they go 4-2 their only chance to force a tie-breaker is if Boston goes 3-3 which isn't happening.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 btw, I think Aaron Judge broke his finger last night on that slide. something to watch. Looked more like a dislocation but it would still be tough for him to hold a bat that next week.

Sale is their only reliable starter. And Soto is on absolute fire. Not saying it’s likely, but its not as impossible as you are making it out to be that they lose one of the last 2 series.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 If the Jays do just miss out, man, there is gonna be some kinda anger directed at the bullpen for those 2-3 months of hot garbage.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Jays tiebreak situation. Sox and Jays - In Boston Yanks and Jays - In Toronto Three way tie situation. Jays should get the tiebreak at home (Boston sweeping Baltimore could leave this a tie or possibly Boston ahead if the Jays win just 4) Boston hosting NYY with the Jays taking on the winner.

Montoyo should take a lot of the blame for his management early in the season. Even now, he continues to play Reese over Jansen and Kirk. He’s f***ing awful and has to go.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Stuff is driving me nuts and can't control it. BoSox or NYY outcomes. Thought when Gallo and DJL dropped those balls worm had turned. Nope. Yanks been on a tear since an ump show helped them win one they shouldn't. Same as we were. Can only hope they come back down to earth starting tomorrow. just going to go to the game and try to enjoy it and not think about all the scenarios. At the end of the day the Jays can really only focus on winning the game they are in one at a time. So many things can happen in baseball that few ever predict. Hell, SEA and OAK arent even dead yet.

Like with Cito.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Boston pretty much f***ed the jays by getting swept. Jays gotta sweep the yankees pretty much.

Don't forget inexplicably giving Panik 123 plate appearances in 2+ months when Espinal was better in Spring Training and better throughout the season. Having a manager who legit did not know who his best players were and still being on pace to win 90 games is both remarkable and frustrating. Even a competent manager and this team might be comfortably in a WC spot right now.

There's a reason why he was in the minors for 18 years. So incompetent.

Jays go 5-1 and Yankees go 3-3 to force a tiebreaker. That's really the only way I see the Jays making it. If the Red Sox lose more than 1 game this week, it will be a damn miracle with the pitching they are facing.

I can't believe they got swept at home. They SHOULD have an easy time the rest of the way but I'd be thrilled if they continue to stumble somehow because that would keep both WC spots in play. No matter what the Jays prob have to win 5 out of 6 to hang in there. If they win at least 2 against the Yankees then lots of things can help them nab WC2... Either Red Sox stumbling OR Yankees losing to the Rays in that last series while we beat the Orioles
