Espinal over Valera is such a weird hill to die on for some people on this board. The difference between the two is so negligible.

 

And I quite like Espinal too. He might end up being a Miguel Rojas type and is a valuable guy to have, but we're not winning or losing games because of a lack of Espinal in the lineup everyday.

Yeah but he should be batting ninth imo. McGuire has been having good at bats since getting more playing time and a Grichuk followed by a Valera PA is not ideal.

Espinal > Valera. If you want to say it's no big deal, then fine, but Valera is almost 30 with no MLB track record at all. There's very little upside in playing him, while Espinal likely has some. Maybe some Urshela flashbacks where they want to give Valera a shot.

I believe as Ray said, it's negligible... you can still move guy's in August. That's be tight and kill 2 birds with one stone. Get Smith in the line-up.
