I know Charlie manages like a little league coach, so everyone needs to get a turn to play, but Valera over Espinal (who barely played at all prior to recently) is a puzzling decision. If Biggio is on the DL, then this is actually the right time to get a quick look at Smith at 3B, if anything.

Yes but the Jays have a lot of expendable parts on the 40 man (including Valera), and Smith will have to be protected after this season anyway. Hopefully they make the switch soon.
