Marquez is younger, has much more control, and is arguably better than Berrios. In retrospect I'd definitely rather have traded that package plus another lower tier prospect for Marquez and feel much better about it.

It was a seller's market and the supply of quality pitching is vastly smaller than the demand.

I agree with this.

And this is fine perspective to have. Obviously both were under performing but it’s also only been a couple of months of under performance. SWR started the season on fire and then has struggled with command and lost velo on the Fastball. Austin Martin has been banged up and yea maybe the power is concern to some but it’s hard for me to imagine him not hitting. And the position versatility with high on base percentage was so intriguing to me because we just don’t have guys who get on base at high clips.

I don’t like the trade. But it’s fine if others do. My dislike comes from the fact that it’s a move that was a little early to make. Without an extension it’s bit risking for my liking because at this point in time I don’t view the Jays as contenders. And this is very much a win now move. I understand we still have a full year of Berriors but we could very well lose him after that. Giving up both your best position player prospect and pitching prospect for a non elite player stings for me. If we made that trade for a Turner sign me up. That’s an elite player at his position. We gave up a lot for #2 Starter. If it was Martin or SWR and a host of lower level prospects would have been way more comfortable.

Berrios is not a #2 starter. He is a top 10-15 starter in MLB and there are 30 teams, FYI

Seemed like everyone here thought they were great prospects before the trade but now SWR is a future reliever and Austin Martin is Daric Barton. Can't tell if it's legit or copium tbh.

Like much of his arguments, they are exaggerated or simply false, lacking context.

This is false projection, just looking at the trade thread......There is a whole middle ground there mr hyperbole.

Nah, that's an blatant exaggeration

Pretty much everyone agrees it was an overpay (Twinkies weren't gonna trade him otherwise), but it makes some sense given the warning flags on SWR and Martin that have popped up

I don’t agree with this lol. I would say 20-25 range. Definitely not top 10-15. And not every major league team features an ace or even a top of the rotation starter. Hes a #2 on a good team.

His presence in the lineup cannot be replaced internally next year

I cannot see us signing him with everything else they need to do. Hope I am wrong though.

Pretty much lol. That’s the theme on Twitter as well. The intial reaction was hate and now it’s everyone talking themselves into Austin Martin having zero power and SWR at 20 has lost his command and won’t throw over 92 MPH ever again.

Litterally zero people in the industry view him as an ace. Show me otherwise. Their isn’t 30 Ace’s in Baseball because 30 teams exist.

Again...pure nonsense, how do you even possibly know this? Projection.
