Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Clarification, not really saying it isn't a big deal to be separated from family. Just saying if you are a millionaire you can find a way to have them on the road. If you get vaxed your ability to travel to Canada should be fine, August 9th. There are solutions to his problem. Wife could J&J and be there August 9th as far as I know.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Gross game yesterday. Stripling didn't have it going at all. Saucedo looked good!

Yeah rotational workers have had it way worse the last 2 years....no excuse to not show up for an important start when you are paid millions...I understand what he is saying but almost sounds like he is trying to make excuses.....He has enough money to make seeing them far easier then 99% of people.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Not trying to give the guy too much credit because he obviously cheated, but good managers know how to make a collection of talent a team. Montoyo doesnt know how to do that. Sadly if the Jays win 90 games and just miss the playoffs he may be back. Managers don't make that much impact of players performance.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Oh and f*** Nate Pearson He's Aaron Sanchez all over again Maybe he can come back and be an 8th inning guy even though I'd kill to have him in the rotation and pitching like he's capable of right now

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Stripling's comments are fine. People complain about athletes being boring or only giving stock answers and then other people complain when they are candid and actually say something human. All he said is that his family made a personal decision for them to go back to Texas and in hindsight that fact that he probably won't see his five month old son for two while months is weighing on him. He's a real person. It's good. You'll note that he also said the Blue Jays have been very accommodating and having his family come to Toronto probably was an option.

That's a fair point, Sorry Ross i was being an ******* because we lost.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Managers don't make that much impact of players performance. Perhaps becoming more true as manager's get less authority however in the old days managers could have tremendous impact on performance by their allocation of playing time, opinion on hitting approach, judgement, temperment, psychology. I think a recent example is Yermin Mercedes. Not saying he is all that, or was destined to be a star, however if he was destined to have a 4 or 5 year run and earn a couple million LaRusso took it away from him, apparently because he swung at a 3-0 pitch on a position player. I think the Jays did that a couple of times already. Aggressive swings against Boston and TBR position players in blow outs, I specifically remember Bo doing it on a 3-0 and Charlie is laughing his ass off. I do kind of wonder if having a LaRusso on a team like ours could impact the young player's performance.

Yes I haven't given up on him or anything, not even close It's just so frustrating because we REALLY could have used him this year to be better than Matz and Stripling
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 (edited) Part of the problem has been that Matz and Stripling have both had stretches where they looked good enough to stick but then they keep relapsing into crap that you want out of the rotation Despite this the overall SP performance has been pretty good on average but only Ryu and Ray have been persistently good and they're the only two you'd feel good about using in a playoff series Edited July 20, 2021 by G-Snarls

Just think back to how badly he was hammered in the playoffs last year. He had another bad stretch this year where he was getting lit up. So I guess that only leaves Ray who has been consistently good.
