This situation is no fault to the Dodgers, no one seen this coming. You're not wrong but that doesn't change the optics. A huge chunk of MLB watchers thought Bauer was a creep before the Dodgers signed him. Now those people are vindicated and the Dodgers are tarnished. The Dodgers' justifications for signing Bauer in context just don't matter much in the arena of perception.

I can't imagine this affecting the fanbase loyalty, ability to pull free agents, clubhouse chemistry, or really any other aspect of the club really. Sure people will be able to say 'they signed that creep that one time' but they suspended him when this stuff came out and it doesn't sound like he is going to be back with the team no matter what happens in court. I just don't see what 'damage' its going to do the Dodgers other than the big fat check they wrote for no return.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 I don’t think having kinky sex makes somebody a creep. A lot of people do this s*** and much weirder. He had consent but might have taken it to far. I don’t know what conclusion will get from this law wise. But I don’t see any reason why he can’t play Baseball again.

Some things an individual can't consent to. Think of the Kevorkian Dr. Death cases. Everything can be challenged after the fact.

My NL team is the Mets being from the tri state area and he jerked them around then signed with LA so the hell with him. Looks like the Mets dodged that bullet.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Notes on Bauer from the Athletic this morning... The Trevor Bauer investigation is ongoing Major League Baseball might be in a lockout, but it does not mean the league’s investigation into Trevor Bauer is pausing. Subscribers can read the full breakdown here, but I pulled some highlights for all: First, let’s catch up: Bauer is accused of sexual assault, and the investigation rests with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office. The pitcher has been on leave from MLB since July 2. The DA’s office is taking an unusually long time investigating Bauer’s case. It took charge of the issue Aug. 27, nearly four months ago. There is no timeline on when it could be resolved, but sources told The Athletic’s Brittany Ghiroli that the earliest a decision could come is January. MLB will follow soon after with punishment, which doesn’t depend on the filing of any formal charges. Bauer can also appeal any punishment imposed by the league office. Other item of note: Bauer reportedly exercised his $32 million option for next season, which means he is under contract and will be on the Dodgers roster once the case is resolved.

Beans Verified Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 During high school, I played junior hockey and still hold two league records: most time spent in the penalty box; and I was the only guy to ever take off his skate and try to stab somebody. lol at everyone who didn't catch this Happy Gilmore quote.
Beans Verified Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 This story is salacious as hell, I tell you what. I bet he walks on the charges, but ends up in a massive feud with Manfred when the league gives him like a 15-game suspension or something similarly non-punitive. Only Bauer would fight any length of suspension, even if it means missing just 3 starts... dude is obstinate. Disappointing seeing the same two dozen people still fighting over moral judgements on everything in the news, but mildly satisfying that Jim is still Jim, and being treated as Jim... lol

So if he gets 15 games now, all he would have to do is fork over 15 games of salary from last season and he’d be free to play right away since he’s already missed way more games than that
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 LA is woke, so probably he can’t play there. I wonder what off-loading him will look like. I also know it won’t be to the Jays
Beans Verified Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Imagine Bauer appeals even a retroactive suspension... lol
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Imagine Bauer appeals even a retroactive suspension... lol Course he would. $$$ more than principle
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 What teams would take on Bauer? Jays are way too much into virtue signalling to take the risk. You generally need a team with a rich benefactor as opposed to a corporation who has to worry about their brand. Padres don't seem to have a character requirement. Astros took on Osuna when nobody else would touch him. Yankees took on Chapman post-scandal.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Mets owner only wants to win and needs pitching so there's a fit. The length of the investigation is interesting though.
Beans Verified Member Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 In her ruling, Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman said the woman’s injuries, as depicted in photographs, were “terrible.” But the judge also said the only evidence of any injury the woman sustained while unconscious resulted from getting “hit on the butt.” The judge also said the woman was “not ambiguous about wanting rough sex in the … first encounter and wanting rougher sex in the second encounter.” The district attorney is not bound by those conclusions. The district attorney also has to weigh how much the credibility of the accuser might have been damaged when the judge ruled the woman was “materially misleading” in her initial court filing.
