G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Watched Tellez a lot in Buffalo, and he never struck me as someone who would make to, or be able to stay at the major league level. Not a consistent enough hitter to be a long term DH option, and doesnt have the athletic profile necessary to be a plus defensive player. I will say I loved his walk up song though. 1. Interesting observation 2. They tried to sign Michael Brantley as a left hitting OF/DH, so IYAM the team probably feels the same way? Or did they overestimate Tellez and underestimate Grichuk?? 3. What song did he use?
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Last year was nothing but a fluke for Tellez he couldn't even come close to number he manage to fluke out that year we are seeing the real Telllez you cannot waste to much time on a 30th round pick at that stage you're nit picking the bottom of the barrel. There's no place for him now that Vladdy is playing first. Just shut the f*** up idiot.

The Jays took a flyer on him in the 30th and managed to sign him (he skipped college). If I remember correctly, he was considered a 2nd round talent. He struggled in April, but has been contributing just fine ever since, with his BB% and K% approaching his 2020 levels. I'm really sorry he f***ed your mom or sister or whatever it is.

Feel like the team had to have underestimated Grichuk if they were trying to bring in Brantley. IMO, Grichuk is the best player of the three, his power numbers are a bit higher than usual, but he's been more than serviceable his entire career. If I recall his walk up song was Dirt Road Anthem. Not a classic or anything, and maybe a bit embarrassing but it played well in the ballpark, especially on the Friday night games.
Anybody but Charlie Verified Member Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Hopefully this is the end of fatty. He's a black hole in the lineup. I'm tired of hearing Buck talk about his one good stint last season. Charlie's trying to capture the same magic and he never will.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Expecting Davis to be sent down when Springer back. Espinal down when Biggio returns, although I wish it was a Panik DFA instead. Tellez has earned a roster spot.

Tellez has earned a roster spot. Not a chance Davis is safe they use him as late inning defensive replacement over Gurriel plus with the uncertainty of Springer they're not leaving the outfield short a player. Panik has better offensive number than Tellez with less game played Tellez is the logical choice to be sent down judging by production and performance numbers.

It will depend on what the plan is for Springer when he returns. Are they waiting until he has no restrictions and is starting in CF, or ease him back in as a DH. I suspect the later, so there is a good chance Tellez goes down - not because Davis is better, but because Springer will DH often. That said - lots could change between now and then. Always does.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Springer is likely going to DH just as much as (if not more than) he plays the field for a while, so Tellez is likely the one who gets sent down instead of Davis.

Biggio should be back before Springer and can play OF. When Springer and Biggio are back I don't see how Davis sees much if any PT. Tellez > Panik at the plate, regardless of 2021 small sample. Panik is a 90 wRC+ bat, Tellez at least 100 wRC+ Edited June 8, 2021 by Jimcanuck

To me it's tossup between them who gets sent down when Springer returns. Neither guy has been receiving a ton of playing time as is, the resulting outfield DH/logjam is just going to complicate things further.

It's going to come down to the position each player can play Tellez plays first base and DH there's plenty of options for Montoyo on who can play first base Davis plays outfield all 3 positions he been the 4th outfielder and late inning defensive replacement. Springer will eased back into the game. Expect Davis to stay as a safety precaution for Springer.
