Laika Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Am I drunk or does Tanner Roark look a tiny bit better? Just hit 93 on this Phillies gun and then pulled the string on Hoskins.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Wait a minute.. Was Nola pulled from the game in the previous inning but now is back in to start the fourth? Spring rules?
wewlad Verified Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 okay can someone explain how is Nola back out there when he was pulled last inning? Is this just like a spring training thing or?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Nola came back in to get rocked a bit more. Now he's gone.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Wait a minute.. Was Nola pulled from the game in the previous inning but now is back in to start the fourth? Spring rules? Yes. The rules in ST are basically made up.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 I know it's early but i think the line up may be better served with Gurriel and Semien switching spots.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Roark in a jam, bases juiced no out.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Vlad with a good patient eye then legged out a groundball infield single
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Then went first to third on a line drive single to left #Lightningcat

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 hey, our boys hit for the cycle this inning!
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Vladdy having a big day with the bat. He looks a lot quicker this year as he did on the triple.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 I just orgasm'd when looking at the box score right now. Ya, don't judge me lol. Does anyone think we can come close to the 2015 Jays offensively? While we don't have the same Donaldson/Jose/Edwin trio on this team yet, I think the rest of our lineup is better. Let's add our David Price at the deadline and do this.

Ray Verified Member Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 The team obviously has some serious belief in him. Shapiro and Atkins mention him in their top couple of prospects every time. Everything is there except a breaking pitch. Great fastball command, big velocity separation on the change, elite groundball rates, and durability. A small adjustment on a pitch grip or different sequencing could change his outlook dramatically in a hurry. Clearly that's the case: I'm curious as to why he's totally ditched his curveball, which coming out of college was considered one of his stronger secondaries.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 ICYMI https://www.mlb.com/video/vlad-jr-s-four-hit-game The first two hits were absolutely murdered. The fourth hit is a good example of what happens when he hits the ball in the air, even when he doesn't crush it. The single was a bit lucky I guess but he still hit it pretty hard and last year fat Vlad might not leg that out. But holy s***, those first two hits. The second double was a line drive that didn't get five feet off the ground but look how quickly it got to the wall... Two of the hits today were essentially dingers.

Pretty sure both Nola and the last pitcher (Tony Watson?) thought they gave up bombs, just look at their reactions.
Ray Verified Member Posted March 17, 2021 Author Posted March 17, 2021 Vlad’s slash line this Spring: .529/.625/.941, for a 1.566 OPS and only 2K’s in 24 PA. Just absurd.

Yeah this might be a big deal. Zeuch sinker velo in 2019: 91.9 2020: 92.2 (75% of sinkers between 90.8 and 93.6 mph) Yesterday per statcast his average sinker was 93.81 and he touched 95.9. That's probably a full pitch grade improvement, at least.

That's probably a full pitch grade improvement, at least. I watched the entire press conference and what got lost in that tweet was the entire context around the quote “A very good day for the organization”. It wasn’t specifically about Zeuch but rather the personnel focusing on pitching development. He was very complementary of Matt Buschmann, the coaching staff, and high performance department working together to unlock more velocity for Zeuch. What I got out of it was that the organization seems to have taken a step forward when it comes to pitching development, which seems to fit the eye test with guys like Anthony Kay, Ryan Borucki, and Jordan Romano as well. Trent Thornton has also been tinkering with some things and is due to make a start on Friday, so I’m excited to see how he will look. We’ll see how all of this translates to the regular season though. I was hoping we could get some pictures of the pitching/hitting labs in the new player development complex, but for obvious reasons they didn’t show it. Either way, very encouraging development with Zeuch for sure.
