gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 You fellas are wrong. C'mon man, holy f***.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 The yips IS the mental block. f*** me. He took a fly ball off the face and was never the same. Also, can we please not compare this to playing Chris Colabello out of position in the OF? If you want to call him mentally weak and unable to handle the stress of playing in the ML's, then I guess, but I wouldn't. I know some people's brains start getting squeezed more on routine fly balls oddly enough, which is anxiety driven. Rob Butler had serious anxiety issues but in his case it didn't effect his defence seemingly. The point is, there is just simply no room for Fisher with no options on this club. Hopefully nobody claims him and he can sort out his issues in Buffalo. We gave him enough time in the bigs to figure it out because we had the flexibility to do so. I think Atkins was more than accommodating in trying to get him straight.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Fisher has some intriguing offensive tools, but the only way he will have any value as a player with no options left is on a team willing to give him PA's to see if his bat can take the next step. That's on a rebuilding team, not a team looking to contend. From the Jays perspective, they couldn't send him down, he was a 5th OF at best on the current roster, and he doesn't provide plus defensive value. Davis makes way more sense for this team, both because of options, and because his skillset fits the 5th OF role a lot better. OF depth chart - Springer, Gurriel, Hernandez, Grichuk, Biggio, (Fisher), Davis, Palacios No point in keeping the #6 guy that is out of options.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 I f***in hated the Blue Jay era where we did nothing but dumpster dive on any and all guys DFAd. The better this team gets, the better quality guy being removed from the 40 man roster. Lets be glad we are at this stage where its us getting rid of better players and not the team at the other end of it. Rejoice our team is a quality team!!

Are you seriously stating that at the way things stand currently, options aside, that Davis is ranked lower on the depth chart than Fisher? The only tool Fisher has over Davis is power, when he makes contact that is.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 C'mon man, holy f***. It's a 5th OF'er, with Davis having an option is better depth in case of injury, holy f***. Not a big deal there, coach.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 You fellas are wrong. How am I wrong? You want to keep Derek Fisher around to get 100 PA's?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 How am I wrong? You want to keep Derek Fisher around to get 100 PA's? Yes, what's the difference with Davis? I'm simply implying as depth for injuries, not a big deal, mate. Or move him for international money or something, I just think someone like Payamps or Waguespack would've been a better option to DFA at the time. We have loads of arms available this year.

Thing is, Fisher likely had to be DFA'd regardless, as there's no room for him on the 26 man, so it's not JUST a 40 man consideration here.
