Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 They gave him a player option for the third year lol.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Big BJMB target off the board. No way he made sense for the Jays at that price. It's only a one year deal. If you really liked him then you go get him. Our overall payroll is still peanuts relatively.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 It's only a one year deal. If you really liked him then you go get him. Our overall payroll is still peanuts relatively. They likely want to keep payroll open for midseason additions and also probably like their internal options.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 They likely want to keep payroll open for midseason additions and also probably like their internal options. Atkins has brought up the opportunity cost for our young players on multiple occasions when discussing free agent pitching additions.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 They likely want to keep payroll open for midseason additions and also probably like their internal options. If the team is deep in contention by the deadline, they’re likely seeking for some type of elite SP for prospect acquisition to bolster the rotation (ala Chris Sale or Verlander type trade). They have the financial flexibility and farm system to pull off that kind of trade, rather than blowing their load on another 4th starter type right now. The rotation has plenty of backend depth and probably be close to league average, I’m more worried about the D behind them.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2021 Author Posted March 4, 2021 Odorizzi and Porcello are the last two players remaining on the FanGraphs Top 50.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Odorizzi and Porcello are the last two players remaining on the FanGraphs Top 50. Sign Odorizzi plz.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 I think Porcello makes a lot of sense - I can't imagine he's commanding a 3 year deal.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Yea I've been pushing Porcello virtually all off season, add some stability to the rotation
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 One of those 2 seem like a good add. Probably Porcello at this stage since he'd require the least amount of commitment.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2021 Author Posted March 6, 2021 Odorizzi off the board.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Not much left. I wonder if Porcello, Hamels, and Leake will even play this year. Franco probably takes a minor league deal soon. Who knows with Puig.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Well that sucks... going to a potential wild card threat is the worst case scenario aside from coming into the divison.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Was wondering what Houston was going to do after losing Valdez for the year. Voila.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Well that sucks... going to a potential wild card threat is the worst case scenario aside from coming into the divison. They were forced to, they just lost one of their better starters.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 They were forced to, they just lost one of their better starters. You could argue that we don't even have a better starter to lose with our current rotation lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 You could argue that we don't even have a better starter to lose with our current rotation lol. Huh? We have tons of depth. We'll get a very good arm via trade at some point this season.

Ya I'm not saying all is lost because we didn't get Odorizzi. And we do have tons of depth but it seems like a lot of backend rotation depth at this point. We will eventually need front end rotation help.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
