intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Just one more suppository poop will do it, old guy. IW's the best poster here, ya wanker! Agreed
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Not all WAR are created equal. That projection would just be for regular season wins. Come playoff time 3 WAR Blake Snell becomes much more valuable than 3 WAR Cavan Biggio. Snell (or the like) changes the entire dynamic of a series. Jays will need SP help to be legit You don't say ;P Poo!

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 lol... connorpWAR Common logic really. I mean if a SP say pitches 2 games in 5 days (games) and his season WAR is basically without exception based on pitching 1x every 5 days- basically you’d double the WAR value. So even mathematically it changes

keggy Verified Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 lol... projections should be close, we're ranked a top 6 team. C'mon man. For the record I think we're a good young team that makes the playoffs. I'm just saying a team like the Dodgers or Padres can take a giant s*** on us without one or two more stars.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Of course they are, lol. 5th in baseball in projected WAR 3rd in the AL That's a WS contender.... they aren't the Dodgers but the WS odds are not trivial The pack is thick so they need to keep adding though Fangraphs doesn't take into consideration the negative 10 wins for the manager of course.

Depth Charts on Fangraphs has us 4th in MLB, 2nd in the AL.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 With the adds to the team and the growth of the younger guys, are we a WS contender this year? If not then when do you think we will be. In the past if you make the playoffs it's anyone's game. Right now it's hard to see the Jays having the pitching to get through multiple playoff series, but that may be different a few months from now with some development and health. Stripling, Romano, Merryweather, Kay, Pearson, Kirby Yates, Ray,... who knows where these guys and a bunch of others will be early October. And who knows who else they sign or trade for. If in playoff position late July a couple of key parts for playoffs could be acquired then.

If in playoff position late July a couple of key parts for playoffs could be acquired then. What I am trying to say is that in 2021 you don't need Bauer to be a world series contender. If you do have starters that can go late into playoff games that's good. But you could also do it with bullpen games and stuff. So another road to being a World Series contender is that all the depth is healthy in October. If Romano, Merryweather and Giles were healthy and lights out, and Ryu didn't blow up the first game even last years team could of gone far.

If the Bluejays can fix Ray and he returns to having a BB/9 rate of under 4 like earlier in his career it'd be a huge boost. Pearson needs to take the next step forward.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 Vlad is in shape. Hopefully the kid figures it out for the rotation. I'm sure he will. Yates deal solid. The term for Springer blows but had to to get it done. I'm thrilled about it. They need to keep adding pieces which they will. Arms are thin overall. Should be a hell of an exciting season and I can't wait.
