With the adds to the team and the growth of the younger guys,are we a WS contender this year?

If not then when do you think we will be.

Realistically, not without further moves. I think we're a playoff contender though.

I think the Jays are probably a playoff wildcard team as of now who could win a game or 5 game series but with little chance to get past the Yankees and White Sox

 

Add one top of the rotation starter and one quality infielder and I think we have a chance against them

Of course they are, lol.

 

5th in baseball in projected WAR

3rd in the AL

 

That's a WS contender.... they aren't the Dodgers but the WS odds are not trivial

 

The pack is thick so they need to keep adding though

I can’t imagine Jays won’t add more SP depth. Hopefully a lot better than Chatwood. Not looking good for front line guy though

Yup. I think they are right now. They'll add pitching of some kind this OS. The quality of that pitching will determine what our odds are should we get in.

Not saying it’s a bad thing. They really should add 2 SP though. I think it may end up being 1 + Chatwood though. We’ll see

It depends on what MLB decides with their playoff format. I wouldn't even say we're guaranteed a top 5 spot. I'd expect us to be in the race for sure but with our current starting pitching, it's tough to talk about WS aspirations.

 

We need a real ace to slot everyone where they belong. Although playoffs are a crapshoot so anything can happen once we get in. Just have to get hot at the right time. 2022 is the year I will begin to think we can win it all.

Playoffs will be easy to make with the squad we have. From there anything can happen.

Talent wise we're roughly at the level of 2006 (the one good year under Ricciardi) or 2014 (the year before we went on our run). Those years we had some really valuable young talent mixed with serious flaws that championship teams don't have. We still needed to acquire guys like Donaldson and Martin to become a legit championship contender.

 

With the new format playoffs are well within reach though. This all assumes we don't add any more star level talent this offseason.

I appreciate when people appreciate the 2014 crew. That was a not-bad year, lost between awful results from the year before it and the amazing fun from the two after it.

Not all WAR are created equal. That projection would just be for regular season wins.

Come playoff time 3 WAR Blake Snell becomes much more valuable than 3 WAR Cavan Biggio. Snell (or the like) changes the entire dynamic of a series. Jays will need SP help to be legit
