gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 Dumb talk. Of course the Jays can make the playoffs. And nothing good can come of Vladdy being in the HR derby for our team... nothing. Yeah, the Jays can easily snag the last WC spot with a few additions at the deadline. We're only 3.5 games back with no one else to really crawl over ffs.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 Dont the Jays have to play like .600 ball to get around 90-92 wins? Pretty unlikely they make it tbh
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 ItÂ’s a tough call either way. ThatÂ’s why FO gets paid a lot. We went on a roll in 15 after big moves and basically it cost us Boyd Norris and Hoffman. With no Cecil fluke injury and less ******** KC luck that team could have won. DoesnÂ’t always work out well, like the MIA and Dickey deals. God I hated watching him pitch. Didn't it also cost 100 million in Tulo's contract? Which really hurt 17 and 18.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 This is a good take I agree with but itÂ’s a bit frustrating. Who knows what next year brings? Will Vlad mash again? Who will replace MarcusÂ’s production? Injuries. Is Pearson a bust? How will Ryu do another year of age on the arm? How and at what cost will they inject more quality arms into rotation and pen? How do we improve the run prevention? Each season brings its own questions. Big pictures donÂ’t work out more often than they do with so many variables. A debatable argument was makeable that this team was good enough with moves to push. Just have to have faith in the FO. I think you need to ask whether we can match this years projected record for a number of years. Different players will perform under-perform every year. So no Semien next year? Will better years from Biggio and Gurriel + whatever we get for his 20 million salary perform?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Well that can't be good Certainly not good.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 So what do the team's in front have to play? See what I did there? The 4.5+ game lead they have on the Jays certainly gives those teams some more leeway
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) Didn't it also cost 100 million in Tulo's contract? Which really hurt 17 and 18. A lot but Not that much. We flipped some of the big dough we owed Jose Reyes in exchange. Also have to ask what 15 and 16 runs did to net revitalize the franchise financially and RE energize a fan base. That’s glass half full sure. Banking on better years for those two. You can also make the case that the league has figured out nobody has to throw a strike to Gurriel and Biggio has a hole in his swing. And you have to ensure the FO doesn't get another Roark deal with that $20mm. Your premise can happen. Not sure it’s likely. We have Marcus this season and he has been worth almost 4 war already. To resign Ray will chew up a good net chunk of that 20mm to get back to where we started this year. Edited July 12, 2021 by BigCecil
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Grichuk not getting the start today vs a LHP right before the break isn't a good look for him, unless there's something else going on as to why he isn't playing. Let's see how Gurriel does hitting sixth, which imo makes the line up better until Kirk is back.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Gurriel is awful defensively and doesn't make up for it with his bat or get on base
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Robbie Ray appears to be a legitimate ace.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Robbie Ray appears to be a legitimate ace. I don't hate Ryu, Ray, Manoah as a playoff rotation (if they were to get there)

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 What's it going to take to re-sign him. 3-4 years at 18M
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 3-4 years at 18M More. His agent is probably gonna try and comp to Zach Wheeler.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 More. His agent is probably gonna try and comp to Zach Wheeler. I can't see anyone giving him 5 years at 23.6. Possible but seems unlikely. We also have some advantages 1. He seems to like working with Pete Walker 2. We will give him a qualifying offer, hindering his signability elsewhere 3. Payroll flexibility
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 The bigger question should be whether we trade Semien and Ray if we fall back a lot by the trade deadline? Try to get back some good controllable players while going all in this offseason?
Skinny Wolf Verified Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Blue Jays to-do-list before trade deadline: 1. Fire Montoyo, let shneider taking over 2. Try to sign Semien a extension if he declines, trade him. 3. Try to sign Ray a extension if he declines, trade him 4. trade Biggio 5. trade Grichuk 6. trade Jansen or McGuire, bring up Kirk

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Probably better to hang on to both of them and go with a qualifying offer I think we should have a good idea what both players will try to command in the offseason by the trade deadline. If it's not going to be something we'll be interested in then trade them. Both of these players can put teams over the top so I'm sure we would get something really good back even it's for a rental. Worst case, we do get to quality both so it is kind of a win/win position.

By all accounts Ray is having a better year going into free agency than Wheeler was but Wheeler projected better and didnt have the red flags that Ray will. Both were 29 going into free agency so 5 years is definitely what they will shoot for.

RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 The Ryu deal 4/80 looks awfully good Would they go there for Ray? 4-80 would be a steal imo for Robbie Ray. Hes a legit no.1 on a good team.
