To have to live in a bubble here in Toronto.

Thats what the government and NHL agreed on.

No they wouldn't but by August I would assume the covid numbers are very low thanks to vaccines, Here in Jersey numbers have gone way down already , Vaccine work, put those that choose to be unvaccinated in a bubble and tested daily

Agreed. The MLBPA will not agree to something like that, nor should they.

Just let the Jays finish the season in Buffalo. Unless Canada is willing to let players travel without living in a bubble and will allow a reasonable amount of fans into games, it just seems like a waste to have players go through all that nonsense.

The NHL is playing right away. If the Jays targeted July 30th for Toronto that's probably 6 or 7 million vaccinations that are done between now and July 30th. That's 16 or 17 million shots. Most of the 50+, maybe even 40+ crowd that want a vaccine will have had their second by that time. The fact that most baseball teams are fully vaccinated added to the amount in Canada that are fully vaccinated makes any decision not to allow the Jays to play in Canada a political one, not a safety one.

Which it is going to be. The next thing will be vaccine passports. Even if they got all the Jays vaccinated, no way 100% of MLB will every be... How is this going to resolve?

Justin - "Despite their best efforts only 92.7% of MLB is vaccinated, we cannot allow the unvaccinated in, thus the Blue Jays will not be playing here until.. well I don't know if or when. I love you all."

Like I said how does it get resolved?

Looks like Jays will be at Sahlen Field until at least July 24th. Hopefully they will return in August. No reason not to if the fatality rate from the virus remains low in U.S. and Canada. Case counts may become deceiving if vaccines reduce fatalities a huge amount.

That is insane, why so late? Canada is now leading the world in Vaccinations, canadian giv is being ridiculous here.

A year from now there still will be unvaccinated people,I don't see a resolution other than banning people who choose not to get the vaccine

Have to vote them out or Baseball in Toronto may be doomed

I'm expecting by mid July the number of new cases Canada wide will be < 100 a day. And the US not much more than that. The border will reopen when the time is right. If the Tories were in power, they would be doing roughly the same thing.

The border is bilateral also. It may not be the Cdn government that holds up the border opening.

I agree it's a political decision, and given that there's no guarantee Canada will allow even 25-50% capacity (much less full) at the games assuming they even allow the Jays and visiting teams to travel there in the first place, it makes Sahlen for all of 2021 a bit more logical, IMO. If the Jays somehow make the playoffs, then good for Buffalo, I guess. It sucks that the Raptors and Jays have to suffer because of this, but unlike Tampa with the Raptors, I think the Jays might actually have a homefield advantage in Buffalo, so it wouldn't be the worst outcome. If they were still in Dunedin, then that's a different story.

With a possible (probable?) lockout in 2022, it may be just under four years between home games for the Blue Jays. That’s not good. Oh well, we’ll all be dead eventually.

I have a hard time believing the owners and players would be stupid enough to do that, on the heels of a pandemic.

Bo has played a lot better D and his bat speed and the pitches he can reach are abnormal. He has basically only had 1 full season of PAs over the last 3. Still young and worth 1.5 fWAR in 21.

The league is figuring him out. Love to see more plate discipline and swing control. He is our franchise kid middle IF. If Vlad wasn't behind him....

19 - 212 PAs and 142 wRC+

20 - 128 PAs and 122

21 - 251 PAs and 112

Lol.....that made me laugh. You don't think the owners and players would be stupid enough. Have you not been listening over the past year? The players and the owners fight like cats and dogs. They couldn't get the universal DH this year and both sides wanted it....lol.

Blue Jays Notes: Jansen, Springer, Biggio, Hatch, BoruckiJune 7th, 2021 at 2:15pm CST • By Mark Polishuk

Catcher Danny Jansen suffered a right hamstring strain that forced him out of Sunday’s 6-3 Blue Jays loss to the Astros. Jansen was hurt running the bases trying to beat out a fielder’s choice in the third inning, and Reese McGuire took over at catcher for the top of the fourth. Jays manager Charlie Montoyo told MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson and other reporters that Jansen would receive tests both yesterday and today to determine the extent of the strain.

With Alejandro Kirk already on the 60-day injured list, losing Jansen to the IL would leave Toronto with a catching depth chart of McGuire and (in all likelihood) Riley Adams, who is hitting .250/.410/.600 over 78 plate appearances at Triple-A this season. Adams had never played at the Triple-A level prior to this season, and he doesn’t officially have any big league experience — the Blue Jays called Adams up for a three-day cup of coffee on the active roster in early May, though Adams didn’t appear in any games. While McGuire is the more experienced option, his struggles at the plate over the last two seasons would perhaps mean that McGuire and Adams would be deployed in a platoon, as the youngster’s Triple-A production certainly seems to warrant a look against Major League pitching.

More from the Jays…

George Springer is making “extremely encouraging” progress in his recovery from a quad strain, GM Ross Atkins told reporters (including Matheson, TSN’s Scott Mitchell and Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling) as part of a series of updates on injured Blue Jays players. Springer has been performing running drills over the last two days, and Atkins implied that the outfielder is “very close” to heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. This is Springer’s second quad injury of the season, and combined with those injuries and an oblique issue, the prized free agent signing has appeared in only four games in 2021.Speaking of rehab assignments,

Cavan Biggio began his assignment at Triple-A yesterday. A cervical spine ligament sprain sent Biggio to the 10-day IL on May 22, but it looks like he’ll be able to rejoin the Jays sometime this week. The injury absence has underlined an overall tough season for Biggio, who has a -0.3 fWAR through 39 games and 151 PA due to a lack of hitting (.205/.315/.315) and some defensive struggles as Toronto’s regular third baseman.

Thomas Hatch threw two scoreless innings for Triple-A Buffalo yesterday, as the right-hander resumed a rehab assignment after missing two weeks with what Atkins described as “mild tightness in his side.” Hatch is working his way back from an elbow impingement suffered during Spring Training that has kept the righty out of any Major League action this season. Hatch worked 16 of 17 games as a reliever in his 2020 rookie season, but Atkins said the team is still planning to build Hatch up as a starter.

Ryan Borucki is on the verge of beginning a throwing program, and is no longer feeling any pain in his forearm. A left flexor strain went Borucki to the injured list in mid-May, representing yet another injury setback for a southpaw who missed most of the 2019 due to elbow issues.

I still wonder how do the Jays ever return since a vaccine passport will be needed? Will the union agree to quarantining unvaccinated players, assuming Canada even lets them in?

I am guessing the vaccine passport breaks down at some point (movies, other business interests, international leaders, refugees)... I don't know. Maybe NHL next year, if NHL doesn't get 100% vaccination.

And yet, they did come to an agreement that allowed games in 2020. A lockout or whatever may happen, yes, as stupid as it would be.

I've been watching baseball since 1982. Trust me, they are all plenty stupid enough.

Vlad is currently:

1st in the AL in BA

1st in the AL in HR

3rd in the AL in RBI (Devers and Meadows have 1 more RBI)

What would it be called if he also lead in OBP, SLG, and Runs along with those 3?

Olerud 93, Delagado 2000, and Bautista 11, all had historically great seasons fade to 3rd place MVP finishes because of slow Septembers. Here are dates that are safe

All Star - June 24th

MVP - August 20th

Triple Crown - September 10th

The triple crown is the latest and based on Olerud's attempt at .400... he kept it up seriously until August, but still faded to .363... Serious talk on .400 or Triple Crown has to wait until September. I think Bautista and Delgado were within reach of Triple Crown into August but didn't come that close.

One of the reasons I was worried about VGJs off days (or lack of) was because of seeing Olerud 93, Delgado 2000, and Bautista 11 all fade a bit in their great seasons...

Bonds is one who kept up a 4 year run of insanity using about 15-20 scheduled off days a year (and Steroids too).

This is the tricky issue. There is a good chance the border will be open to vaccinated by late July. So what happens if only 90% of MLB is vaccinated?
