I wonder where Roark would rank in worst signings in Franchise history. Definitely Top 10 would anyone put it top 5? I mean it was a big waste of $24 million anyway you slice it.

24 million dollars for - 0.6 WAR

Those numbers make him seem more productive than he actually was. Think about the mental trauma he caused many lol.

I don't know man, at the time of the deal it didn't seem bad, nobody could foresee that much fail. Certainly a wasted flop.

I didn't hate deal at the time

Had no idea he'd be this bad

He was negative value at 24M... god that's awful, he was actually -0.8 fWAR. *weeps*

What makes you feel that?

Look at his boby for one. His gut looked like he drank beer daily and never once did cardio. No way a profesional athlete should have that level of gut. And if you were really bad the previous season you might want to come back the next season in the best shape of your life.

Historically the team has been pretty judicious about handing out free agent contracts, so Roark is definitely among the worst.

Some of the dumbest signings in team history:

Kendrys Morales

BJ Ryan

Maicer Izturis

Frank Thomas

Erik Hanson

For one reason or another, I would rank those signings as worse, but Roark is right up there.

Its not even a question that the bastard, after signing for $24M, mailed it in.

I don't think he mailed it in. I just think he's that bad.

Ryan and Thomas both had incredible seasons with the Jays... I don't think I'd call them dumb signings.

Thomas posted a 1.8 WAR, 127 wRC+ season with 26 HRs and 95 RBIs as a 39 year old.

BJ Ryan was awesome until his arm fell off.

Even Hanson posted a 3 WAR season his first year in Toronto.

This is a pretty tame list of bad signings...

Ya I remember being super impressed that Thomas provided us that given his age. Probably still roided up lol.

You shut your filthy whore mouth... Thomas is one of the few guys from that era (particularly the big dudes) that nobody ever accused of juicing...
