Yes I get it that people die. But people die from the flu every year too No, it is many times worse than the flu. You just aren't smart enough to understand. 1 in 600 Americans dead from COVID-19, this is with significant measures taken to reduce spread. Without those measures, the death rate likely drops to 1 in 300 or even more. And variations are making it more transmissible and more deadly to young people.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Who here had it? Not trying to debate what it is but just curious. My son gave it to me in Feb. I felt it for a couple days and was like “how funny/unfunny would that be if I was always downplaying it and then it gets me”.. luckily passed quick though Was genuinely nervous couple days
Rockhaus Verified Member Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 I had it, always downplayed it and it knocked me on my ass for 4 days. 100 times worse then any flu I’ve ever had . Luckily I had no lung issues just a lingering cough for 2 months afterward.

It also had me barely able to function for months.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 My spouse is quite immuno-compromised due to a blood disorder. She's likely dead if she gets it. The three of us have been holed up for months, 1 weekly visit with a similar family with a same age daughter. When it's allowed. We have managed to avoid infection. Too many people can't see beyond the end of their nose, when it comes to dangerous communicable disease.

It was worse than the pneumonia I had two years back. Going to keep this as baseball related as possible, Teoscar had symptoms and was in quarantine as per health & safety protocols. We had peak athletes feel like crap just from the vaccine-related symptoms, so he definitely wasn't in any condition to play. I'm sure Teoscar wanted to play and nobody wants him out of the lineup. It was unfortunate he contracted it from a family member that tested positive, but coming clean about it was the right thing to do.

Yeah, the fact that he isolated as early as he did probably saved the team from a major catastrophe...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Is your wife able to take the vaccine? Yes, the vaccine is not a live virus, at least not the ones available to Cdns.

Got it really early last March and he nearly did die. He was in the hospital and was intubated, placed on the ventilator, and being perfectly honest we were preparing for him to pass, but he improved somehow and made it through. He gets tired more easily but on the whole in terms of long term impact he's been on the luckier end of things. One of the scariest periods of my life without a doubt. He was incoherent during the last call I had with him before intubation. I wasn't living with them, so I didn't get it, but my younger brother with asthma did, it wasn't great for him either. He's also had ongoing joint pain for months on end after that he never had before.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 I tested positive and I felt really crappy for a few weeks. Even when I recovered physically, I suffered mentally for a week or so. I'm still in my mid 30s and consider myself in good shape so can only imagine how it can be for people in a worse situation.

Yes I get it that people die. But people die from the flu every year too Even if you believe this to be true, you want him to rejoin the team and possibly infect everyone? There are rules, players have to have like 2 negative tests within 24 hours or something before they’re allowed to play again. Absolutely moronic post for multiple reasons.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Professor I had in uni died of it in december. Was 62. Cousin got early, works at a hospital in New York. He lost sense of taste and smell for two months. It can definitely do some damage.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 My younger brother is the only person I know who got it. He got really sick for 3 or 4 days. Had to go to the hospital for dehydration because he couldn’t keep anything down. But outside of that he recovered well. Not a whole lot of cases around here. And he lives in Downtown Toronto so.

Had your brother gotten it hooking up, as you've said earlier?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 My Dad got it last week and died three days later. My Mom currently has it and is symptom free as the Vaccine she got appears to be helping her. One hour ago we got the call that my Dad's cousin passed away due to it as well. It has hit my family hard to say the least.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 Had your brother gotten it hooking up, as you've said earlier? Yup he and his friends never stopped partying. His entire friend group got it. But they all live in the city. I don’t know anyone in this area who got it and hes the only one I know personally. Apparently some of the parents got it as a result. Apparently everyone recovered fine thankfully. The fact that someone would come in here and make a joke of it is digusting.

I definitely have COVID fatigue, but reading these stories is a good reminder of how difficult it can be and the importance of being diligent.

I just registered at the Shopper's near my house, and I hope to get an appointment soon.
