Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Huh? They have an afternoon game BECAUSE they want to maximize viewership. How does it make sense to have 2 playoff games on at the same time when they can stagger them? Its always been like this. I don’t think they’d get more viewers by having the games be at like 7pm and 8pm for example. They obviously know its better for them to do 4pm and 8pm Well, I mean one of the games involves the Rays, so viewership will already by lower. If they're willing to overlap the evening games on Friday, there's no reason not to have the Rays play game 1 at like 6 est and the Astros at 8 est or something.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Kershaw may be toast So glad he was part of winning a WS last year Continued forearm tightness. Doesn't that usually foreshadow TJ? He's only 33-years old and had a ~ 3.4 fWAR campaign on the verge of FA. I don't know if he is quite done yet. For 2022 almost certainly.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Weekday game at 2pm maximizes viewership? What are you thinking? Why can't chisox/astros game 2 be on Saturday at 2pm? Or do people not work in your world? What about Astros/chisox fans in school? Does mlb want to grow the game with younger viewers? The only people watching tv at 2pm eastern on a weekday are lonely housewives watching soap operas. Isn't this because they play 2 games in Houston before needing a day to travel to Chicago? They need to play B2B days, travel, B2B, travel, Game 5 or it takes too long. You have to stagger the series or you have days with no baseball and they don't want teams playing at the same time. Not everyone works 9-5. People working the night shift probably LOVE having an afternoon game to watch (instead of missing every night game). People live stream games, people record games and watch them later. Pretty sure MLB have smart people who do this for a living and know what's going on.

TBS and FOX are not going to want overlapping games against each other, and one network can't air two games at the same time, so you're left with having to spread the games out throughout the day. The other option is to extend the days between games so that each game can be on primetime, but then you're left with something like the NBA playoffs which run for 2+ months.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Rays ALDS roster Fleming and Wisler in Phillips and Yarborough are NOT McLanahan and Baz are starting games 1 and 2 This is why the Rays are a horseshit franchise. Win 100 games and who gets the start in game 2? A rookie with 13 innings pitched in the major leagues. Ridiculous.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 This is why the Rays are a horseshit franchise. Win 100 games and who gets the start in game 2? A rookie with 13 innings pitched in the major leagues. Ridiculous. Can you help me understand this mentality? It's horseshit that they have Baz? It's horseshit they didn't call Baz up earlier? It's horseshit they can win 100 games without using Baz? I mean I'm sure Glasnow would have been the Game 1 starter if he didn't get hurt. I get that people don't think TB is 'good for baseball' because they never keep home grown talent, which may hurt their ability to appeal to the casual Rays fan. I don't understand why people hate TB because they look outside the box to find efficiencies that allow them to win year after year after year without a large payroll. You'd rather they just play traditional baseball and suck balls?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I remember people posting Richard Rodriguez trades. Guy put up a cool -0.5 WAR, 6 FIP and 3 K/9 in 26 innings with the Braves. I believe he was Spider Tack's leading sponsor athlete.
