Scenario for Jays to finish ahead of Yankees

If the Jays sweep the Os and the Marlins can take 2 of the 3 from the Yankees, Jays will get 2nd seed and finish 5th overall in AL seeding.

 

Assuming the scenario above happens Jays and Yanks would finish tied with identical 33-27 records.

 

1st Tiebreaker - Head to Head (5-5)

 

2nd Tiebreaker - Intradivsion record both teams identical at 23-17

 

3rd Tiebreaker - Intradivison record over last 20 games (Jays 12-8) (Yankees 11-9)

 

Marlins are fighting for their playoff lives so I can see them taking 2 of 3. Don't want to play Rays in wild card, much rather face the Twins, White Sox or Indians

I guess the downside to Tam is fear of repressed offense

I was curious if we even want the 5th seed. Theres no real advantage of being 5th vs 8th except for the opponent. We still get the same opponents matched up in the next round in a neutral site.

 

I haven't seen the central play at all this year. Tampa does not scare me even if they're a better team. In a best of 3, anything can happen.

I actually like the White Sox a lot, but they would be the much more favorable opponent for the Jays than the Rays.

 

Edit: Indians and White Sox about to be tied in the standings. I want no part of the Indians rotation in a playoff series.

I keep hearing Dan and Buck talk about Jays fans not wanting to play the Rays. Is this because of a long history of losing to the Rays? Or more because of the current Rays line up?

Tropicana field has been a house of horrors for the Blue Jays since the Rays became consistently good starting in 2008. They are 39-81 for a .325 winning percentage since 2008.

 

But the record doesn't even tell the whole story. So many of the loses have been soul-crushers where the Blue Jays should have won the game. Either ******** luck for the Rays or late collapses by the Blue Jays.

 

It might not be the most rational thing in the world but Blue Jays fans don't want to see the games take place there because of all those memories.

Oh man. That’s a nasty record. It’s amazing how down teams just have the wood over others. In the rugby league, my team (Eels) are 0-6 in finals against the Melbourne Storm. And it’s looking like we face them in round one of the finals next week.

 

Good to know I now have two teams to hate in the MLB. Yankees and Rays.

 

Hopefully we can take our best to Tropicana if we end up there.
