connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 You have to assume in hindsight Jose in self-reflection would be mad at himself. Instead of 5/150 or whatever it was, maybe he got a 5/100 offer that he laughed at he’s now kicking himself in the ass for not taking. Basically he just got the one QO year out of the deal
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 I'm not saying we should have kept anyone. I just didn't like how bad the breakoffs were with players who meant a lot to the organization. And i agree I have very little information. I'm guessing Shatkins coming in and wanting to go in a different direction from what the 2015/2016 teams ended up being just got everyone off on the wrong foot. What we saw was just the fallout of all that. Again - you're assuming the dismissal of these 3 was on bad terms...How the f*** do you know whether it was or it wasn't? Do you think they'd offer 2 of the 3 another (part time) position in the organization if they left on bad terms? Maybe just wait and listen before forming opinions. This is one of the biggest issues these days. You literally know next to nothing about this, yet you're pissed off and spewing your fact-less opinion all over the place. f*** me.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Do we offer to bring Stroman back on a cheap contract once he's still on the FA list end of next spring training? I think he'll come crashing down to reality when he doesn't get the big contract he wants from one of the teams he deems worthy of his unparalleled skills.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Mostly you're just seeing things. I don't even know what "what we saw" is trying to refer to. Are you also mad that they traded Kevin Pillar without sending him a nice enough gift basket? Haha no man. You have to agree that the fallout of the 2015/2016 team was not ideal. People get traded and let go all the time and yet only our guys left with a bad taste in their mouths. Not all but the ones I cared about. Add prioritizing s***** Morales over Edwin too lol.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Again - you're assuming the dismissal of these 3 was on bad terms...How the f*** do you know whether it was or it wasn't? I think we're talking about different things here. I'm talking about Jose, Donaldson lol. I started off my whole rant saying "I don't know the details of Hentgen, Quantrill and Huckaby but i hope it doesn't follow the trend of guys leaving on bad terms."
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Jose and Donaldson left on bad terms? You have a source for this? I've only heard of Stroman leaving on bad terms but he is a big ******* so no surprise there.

First thing I found on searching him leaving the franchise, I know Bautista didn't, EE's situation was f***ed by his agent, STRO pushed himself out of Toronto he constantly put the FO down, not to mention telling the GM to get out of the room, lol... https://nationalpost.com/sports/baseball/mlb/josh-donaldson-says-leaving-blue-jays-is-difficult-to-the-extreme

Anyways, the guy bullied Billy Beane into trading him so even if he did leave on bad terms we can't fault Shatkins too much.

Do you form any opinions based on facts? or you just wing it?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Jose got a pretty good send off. The 4/80 offer to Edwin might have been a PR offer that they knew he would decline, and they could move on without looking bad to the public, but it ended up being $20m more than he actually got from Cleveland. Donaldson's beef seemed to be with the Jays medical staff, not the front office, but I'm not 100% on that.

Nah, there wasn't, Bautista likely signs a 1 day contract and retires a Jay, that's the rumours, yeah he's real pissed.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Jays24 not doing so well here lol

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Haha no man. You have to agree that the fallout of the 2015/2016 team was not ideal. It's inevitable when a short-sighted GM sells most of the farm to build the oldest team in baseball.

Huckaby was named the AAA manager in the offseason and didn't manage a single game. He ran the alternate training site the entire season until it wrapped up. If he was simply fired to save money, shame on Rogers. They could have carried his salary another month until the Jays season was done. We've seen a lot of players come from the alternate training site.
metafour Verified Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 How is 4/80 a PR move when he signed for less? Sounds like a fair market value offer to me. It WAS a PR move because Edwin was seeking $100 mill or more. He turned that down (as expected) but the market ended up being completely dry and he ultimately had to sign for even less than the offer we gave him. That was kinda the year when everyone in baseball collectively decided that past-30 DH only players weren't going to be getting $100+mill 5+ year deals anymore.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Can we kill this thread off please. Rehashing the hissy fits of million dollar babies is not too interesting, and these fits are not exclusive to the Jays at all. And Hentgen, Huckaby, Quantrill will be fine, lol.

Shatkins had the right read on the market then. You don't offer somebody 80 million hoping they will turn it down.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 The EE breakdown right here, like I said, his agent f***ed it up... https://www.tsn.ca/agent-encarnacion-turned-down-more-money-to-sign-with-indians-1.637760

PR move or not - it can't be viewed as Edwin leaving all salty at the FO when they offered him way more than he's worth.

Agents were chasing contracts that weren’t going to be there for the twilight guys
metafour Verified Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Shatkins had the right read on the market then. You don't offer somebody 80 million hoping they will turn it down. No, they just knew what Edwin was gunning for and made sure to offer less because he was insistent on testing the market after being on a team-friendly deal during his entire peak here. It was very obvious that they wanted to move away from the Bautista/EE "core" due to their age and the fact that they knew the team needed to be retooled. It sucks that they had to throw out a token offer for semantics instead of just saying "we want to go in a different direction", but thats basically what they had to do considering the climate they walked into which was extremely irregular.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Nah, there wasn't, Bautista likely signs a 1 day contract and retires a Jay, that's the rumours, yeah he's real pissed. No kidding. How can you be pissed at an organization that gave you a chance to play and become the player he was? I think the way he handled contracts with the Jays could have been handled better.

I've only heard of Stroman leaving on bad terms but he is a big ******* so no surprise there. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/donaldson-blue-jays-exit-im-going-take-high-road/ A lot of his comments around the time he left were clearly mentioning he was not fond of the way things ended lol.

Do you form any opinions based on facts? or you just wing it? Oh i realize that's exactly what happened. Edwins agent screwed up by misjudging the market BUT so did we. We didn't want to wait around for one of our best players because we HAD to sign Kendrys f***ing Morales. The guy who we wanted to get rid of right away lol.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Shatkins had the right read on the market then. You don't offer somebody 80 million hoping they will turn it down. Actually Shatkins misread the market badly too. Hope you remember us running to sign Morales asap. We all know how that signing worked out for us. Glad they didnt want to wait around for one of the best blue jays hitters of all time just so we could grab the all mighty Morales lol.

Josh Donaldson didn't get along with billy beane so who cares. How about Jose???
