Toronto Blue Jays @ NYY Game 2/3.. Roark vs Cole YIKES

I'm not sure we could put Shaw and his 91 wRC+ in the 7 hole...makes much more sense in the 3 spot.

Gurriel and Vlad should be batting 3 and 4, and I realize Vlad isn't a great hitter yet. Not sure why Charlie wants to be cute with the lineups and have Shaw and Grichuk up so high.

I seriously don't understand why he hasn't flip flopped him and Gurriel. I guess it's more important having a left handed bat there, even if it's a s***** one.

It doesn't make sense....Charlie said before the year he thought Gurriel was the best hitter on the team. Gurriel has been on fire. I don't think Charlie is making all the decisions on the lineup card.

That's what the algo says...lol

Think you have to seriously consider trying Pearson in the rotation again. Get all the other trash out of the rotation.

Ryu

Shoemaker

Walker

Stripling

Pearson

They can throw Pearson in the rotation all they want but he's probably not good for more than 3 innings at a time tops anyway.

Pearson for 3 innings is better than Roark or Anderson for 3 innings that we get now.

Yeah I don't disagree, but someone still needs to eat the rest of those innings.

Roark and Anderson do not need to be starting imo

Cant believe they pulled the fat deisel after only 4 innings and 4 HRs. He was just finding his groove.

And I agree, Roark should not be used except in mop up.

Management has really backed themselves into a corner. Roark, Anderson, Walker all struggling SPs.And nobody else stretched out enough to help.

So what are the odds the Yankees don’t score 10+ tomorrow?

Wouldn’t be surprised if the jays win like 5-4 or something honestly. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they get blown out again lol

Yeah, always hard to sweep, and it often seems like an offensive downturn inevitably follows an outburst like the Yankees have had in the last couple games. I could see something like a 6-5 Jays lead going into the bottom of the 9th with yet another LeMahieu oppo shot (2 run HR) to walk it off (against Bass).

BTW: I was trying to look up the most runs surrendered in a 3 game series in MLB and found:

"The record for the most runs scored in a 3-game series is 86 by the Louisville Colonels (AA) against the New York Metropolitans in 1887. The Colonels won all 3 by the scores of 14-8, 23-5, 25-11. Since 1900 the record is 78 by the Brooklyn Dodgers (NL) against the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1950. Brooklyn won the first two 15-3 and 21-12 while dropping the third 16-11."

So the Louisville Colonels scored 62 in 3 games in 1887 while the Dodgers scored 47 in 3 games in 1900 (modern era record). Yankees need 14 to tie the modern era record - could happen but seems highly unlikely......

Roark will probably look better in a 162 game season when depth starters are more in need, and he won't have to face East teams all season, but I'm not sure what Shatkins was expecting when they signed him, especially when starting games at Yankee Stadium, Fenway, etc. A below average innings eater was probably his best case scenario, and in a truncated season where every game matters and he has to face more good offenses, he's not eating innings or pitching below average (it's a lot worse). Disaster signing.

What a confidence-shaking series

Would feel a lot better if they win today's game. That would put them at 3-3 against the Yanks this season. Then we have 4 games against them in Buffalo... i'd be happy if they split that series. Really, i'd be happy if they went 6-6 for the rest of the season.
