glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 It's not truly the trade deadline until Trollosi makes a completely baseless rumor just so he could hashtag #bluejays for clicks.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Would prefer to aim a bit higher but the acquiring cost is cheap I’m down I guess.

I think if we did it with Cherington, it is going to hurt a little more. Not going to fleece him with our system. I think we could maybe go after Bundy and show some shiny objects to the Angels and come out better on the trade equity side... If you want the best pitchers, we need to go to Cleveland...

I tend to agree...Clevinger or Lynn. Bundy is intriguing. Has he really turned a corner. We are down to 3 starters. We need someone!

Ben Cherington and Steve Sanders knows this farm system inside out and will likely take some really good prospects away.

Ah yes the perfect team to trade with, the GM and Assistant GM spent the better part of 3 years developing and finding our talent. While i mostly kid, not sure how much confidence I have in Atkins with the experience Cherington and Sanders have.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 (edited) Trevor Williams is having a better season, but it's almost like acquiring a younger Tanner Roark. Chad Kuhl has better swing & miss stuff, both FB and secondaries have good metrics. But he hasn't quite put it all together, also returning from 2019 TJS so some injury history. Both are under control until 2023. This is like shopping for another #3/#4 starter, it's not a massive upgrade over any of our current options. The deal might make sense short term, since our entire rotation has injury history. But whether or not they're willing to pony up the prospects to get it done, what this team really needs is a front line starter. Imagine going up against the Yankees in the postseason and our rotation is Ryu, Roark, Anderson. Yikes. Taijuan Walker also has extensive history and a bit of a reclamation project, he's also a rental. Unless he comes for practically free, which is doubtful, I rather not trade prospects away for a rental reclamation arm. We're not quite this desperate to shop in this aisle of the bargain store. There are internal 5th starter options in case of an emergency. I'd rather have Dylan Bundy if these are our options. 1) He's under control until 2022 2) He's actually having a great season, 1.1 fWAR in 6 starts, 2.58 ERA 3.06 FIP in 38.1 IP. 3) We can use him against the Orioles and laugh at them Edited August 25, 2020 by BlueRocky

Yes, I agree with your statement 100%, as to it is more dangerous and would be more costly. Hence, I prefaced my comment with exactly that. The positives are the relationship and that those guys don't meet the Pirates timeline.. They can afford to move them and could add to the next wave of really good young pitchers and players coming in the Pirates system and have everyone arriving on the same timeline. Also, I don't think Pittsburgh would ask for any one off our MLB roster, which hurts long term, but is good for us short term if we want to make a playoff run.

Ben Cherington and Steve Sanders knows this farm system inside out and will likely take some really good prospects away. Or they will be affected by bias and target their favourite pet prospects. This can cut both ways.
