TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 All trade rumours and official trades can go here. Jays trades or big trades can get their own thread. Your own trade ideas for the Jays are alright to go here as well but keep them to a minimum and not while there is a load of action going on
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) It would be hilarious if the Blue Jays acquired Plesac and Clevinger at the deadline, then signed Trevor Bauer in the offseason. Edited August 22, 2020 by BlueRocky
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Let's be bold and go get Degrom. I know. That will never happen.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Taijuan Walker is a name to watch. Not because he’s be an obvious upgrade, but because he’d cost almost nothing and there is some lightning in a bottle potential. If someone like that replaces Trent in the rotation is might be a small upgrade to both the rotation and pen.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Huge trade. Ironic that the Phillies of all teams are trading a reliever prospect to the Yankees of all teams.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 There are very few obvious sell candidates on the obvious sell teams this year. The Giants have Drew Smyly and Tony Watson, while the Pirates and Mariners have pretty much nothing for impending free agents. This will get a lot of hate, but I'd honestly entertain a Kevin Pillar addition if it cost very little. If we do make any adds, I expect them to be of the multi year variety and a little under the radar.

Put Teoscar at DH, and things start to look pretty decent out there defensively.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Johnny Cueto and Whit Merrifield are rumored to be available. Also David Fletcher would be intriguing, exactly the type of hitter we don’t have in this lineup. How much would you guys pay for Lindor?

Not many good rentals available this deadline, and I don't see teams parting with blue chippers to get controllable proven player with so much uncertainty ahead. I would guess the main moves will be from the Angels, Red Sox, Mariners, Giants, Pirates, Tigers, Royals etc. Teams that are clearly out of it unloading soon to be expiring contracts. Would the Indians even unload Lindor right now? They're in the middle of a division race with the Twins, and Lindor has had a slow start.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I doubt any big names or even medium sized names are going to be moved. With no minor league season it will be tough to determine which prospects to trade or trade for. My guess is we will see salary dumps or trash for slightly better trash trades mostly.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Players will move. Teams aren’t just going to let guys walk. The asking prices are going to be low so this is perfect time for value. This might be an excellent time to trade a guy that you have little faith in becoming a regular in MLB but has options and years of control for a piece that can help you now. A guy like Billy McKinney in this scenario might actually have some value because of his control.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Definitely think we should be exploring options to trade Bass and Shoemaker.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Even sitting in a playoff spot I don't think the Jays should be making any move with 2020 only in mind.

Even with his large salary, I think we're talking less than 2 million for a month.

Bradley Jr. is not a complete zero with the bat - he can do a bit of everything and you can actually roll him out there as a starter hitting at the bottom of a lineup.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Hembree and Workman on their way to Philadelphia. I can't even imagine that staff minus 2 good relievers, just horrendous.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Boston gets Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold for the 2 relievers. I think it's a win for both sides if they put Pivetta in the rotation. He needs a chance to figure things out. Seybold was a fringe top 20 prospect for the Phils and could be a decent reliever some time.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Pivetta could run a 5.00 ERA and its a significant upgrade for Boston
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 I wonder if they would let scouts go to alternative sites to scout during scrimmages. I’m sure they are doing that in some capacity.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Pivetta could run a 5.00 ERA and its a significant upgrade for Boston Their starters ERA was recently over 7 so that's absolutely correct. I think Pivetta could be so much better than he has been, but he just can't get it together.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Hembree and Workman on their way to Philadelphia. I can't even imagine that staff minus 2 good relievers, just horrendous. Stealth tank
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Stealth tank Their second best pitcher (by WAR) has an xFIP over 6. At this point, it might be a surprise if their pitching staff (-0.6 WAR) manages to be replacement level. For reference, the worst pitching staff of the modern era is the 2006 Royals at 0.5 WAR. That team included Rays pitching coach Kyle Snyder and superstar names like Jimmy Gobble, Brandon Duckworth, and Elmer Dessens. They pitched to old friend John Buck most of the time. The worst in baseball history is the 1915 Philadelphia Athletics at 0.3 WAR. It will be a fun race to watch.

I’m sure they are doing that in some capacity. They are not. Not this year. Scouts aren't allowed in major league parks or at opponents' alternate training sites, where most top minor leaguers have gathered.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 David Fletcher, Jorge Soler, Zach Plesac, Mike Clevinger 2020 World Series.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Clevinger is a real possibility. Cleveland wants to hold him down at the alternate site so he loses a year of service, Clevinger may opt out of the season. There’s a real rift between Cleveland and what happened in the Plesac & Clevinger covid debacle. They’ll keep Plesac because he’s young and cheap. Cleveland will be shopping Clevinger at the deadline next week, there’s already a connection with Shatkins. He’d also be great recruiting help for Trevor Bauer, they’re practically bros. Clevinger won’t be a free agent until 2023, but he’s arb eligible. Cleveland is trying to shed salary to possibly keep Lindor. Blue Jays have already announced they’re looking for quality starting pitching. I’d say do it. Adding another backend starter is meaningless, we have those.

If that relationship really soured that much we should be all over that s***.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 We’d have to eat salary and give up a prospect. But there’s enough club control on Mike Clevinger to justify it. These are the type of deals they need to explore if we’re seriously contending 2020-2024.
itaos Verified Member Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Would 2+ years of Clevinger cost Monaoh or Woods Richardson + Groshans + rookie ball lottery ticket? Not sure how much being a asshat drives down the price.
