Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Over two positive tests How did they think this season was going to go if that's all it takes to get games cancelled?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Now were not even going to be able to play 60 games because of this : (
Scion Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Yet another reason why you should manage every game to win and not manage the bullpen like f***toyo.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Over reaction imo. You're telling me that the park can't be disinfected and everyone involved tested and cleared by Saturday? Even if an extra day is needed, a double header can be played on Sunday. Furthermore, both the Jays and Phillies have a scheduled day off Monday.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Over two positive tests How did they think this season was going to go if that's all it takes to get games cancelled? It was coaches and staff. There wasn't even a player that tested positive.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 You guys aren't looking at the big picture here. Cancel every Jays game except against the Orioles, Red Sox and Marl...scratch that last one. Playoffs here we come!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 So a bunch of Marlins players test positive, and they still play on Sunday, but two non players test positive for the Phillies, and a whole series is cancelled. Makes sense. Buntoyo is going to survive another year because this season is so ridiculous that it’s utterly meaningless except for getting players some development time.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Buntoyo is going to survive another year because this season is so ridiculous that it’s utterly meaningless except for getting players some development time. The positive I’m taking from this year is that Austin Martin doesn’t drop to #5 if the College Baseball season doesn’t get cancelled. Excellent chance Vanderbilt was going to another college World Series and Austin Martin would have put up insane numbers a long the way. I like to think Covid-19 gifted us Austin Martin. Makes me feel better.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 I can see where this is headed. As this is quickly turning into the XFL of MLB seasons, I predict viewership will drop off dramatically when everybody is resigned to the fact that this is a farce and stop caring. A final nail in the coffin will be an extended postponement of games from the Dodgers or Yankees. Manfred won't cancel the season when it becomes apparent it can't go on and there is still some dignity left in doing so at the right time. He'll cancel the season when no more people are watching. Gotta have as much egg on the face as possible. That's the Manfred way. How many people here already feel their interest waning on this season?

I don’t know jack about hockey but I’m sure Canada’s attention will be on that sport over the Jays. The NFL is close but they are using the MLB approach to the season so who knows how far they get. MLB had a week to themselves, got some good ratings out of it, but I can’t imagine US or Canada’s attention will be on baseball from now until the end of the year. Too many other things going on. I’m curious to see what happens to viewership for all sports. MLB still does well regionally so that’s likely not going to change as long as games are played.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 (edited) If the season ends today and we're 4-3, do we make the playoffs? Edited July 30, 2020 by Krylian
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 This is pretty much why I posted last night as being indifferent to Jays W and L, and only being interested in the player development, like Pearson. This season was a joke before last night, and will become more of a joke each day.
barrywpg Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 The Jays are in Washington this weekend with nobody to play - The Nats are in Washington with nobody to play - isn't there a simple solution here.

I think the point is that they learned from their earlier mistake and didn't want to make that same mistake again.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Twp false positive tests as it turns out. Why does MLB lead the world in false positive tests. This doesn’t appear to be an issue in the other sports.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Why does MLB lead the world in false positive tests. This doesn’t appear to be an issue in the other sports. The other leagues likely lead the world in false negatives.

I think the other leagues are using a different kind of test that's more accurate. MLB was too busy squabbling about dollars to bother properly securing the testing capability.

MLB was too busy squabbling about dollars to bother properly securing the testing capability. well said , MLB reminds me of the french fable The Grasshopper and the Ant, while they were bickering and going after every dollar during a pandemic, the NHL and the NBA were busy preparing , put their egos aside, and tried their hardest to provide the best and safest environment for resumption of play. Even though i dont want it, probably Karma would force them to cancel the season and have both side end up with nothing

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Do you actually have proof of this? As far as I know, MLB initially was using saliva tests which they processed at their own PED lab. Because of testing delays at their own lab, teams were grabbing any lab they could find to process their own tests. I'm pretty sure the NBA and NHL use nasal swabs.
