gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Montoya has a face you would see on a milk carton.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Stop Yeah ok, I will leave Jim on his high horse. No worries. He can preach to all us peasants about how little he cares about whether the team loses or not, as if anyone cares about his opinion.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 you expect much more from a lineup that has 8 below average hitters and Biggio? f*** Off!!!

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Truth is that this offense is not that good. Vlad has a long way to go he could use a stint in the minors everyone else is just not mlb worthy other than Biggio, Jansen and maybe maybe Hernandez you can't keep putting garbage out there like Rowdy Tellez Derek Fisher and Brandon Drury and expect better results. Vladito will improve but the ceiling is clearly not what people thought it would be. He is a DH and will need a wrc of 130 plus to be of any value. Look at the mlb hitters on this team 50 percent k rate today
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Montoyo is a minor league manager which is perfect because he is managing a minor league hitting ball club

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Great, thank you lol... It was time...
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 We were in every game so far this year, being consistently competitive is the next step. With a win tomorrow we'll be 4-3, not a bad start.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 So did the Nats. Still deserved to lose as what unfolded here, my point in the Dot is seperate.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Still deserved to lose as what unfolded here, my point in the Dot is seperate. Facing Scherzer for 115 pitches is going to be tough for any lineup. He dominated this team, like he's dominated most of his career. Awesome that Pearson matched him for the limited number of pitches he was allowed to throw...
Ex Player Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Author Posted July 30, 2020 Fedde vs. Ryu tomorrow. 4:05pm start

Extra innings, not so much, lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 That wasn't yummy at all. Nope it sucked : ( Bringing in Yamaguchi was like settling on bringing home a 5 from the bar and then finding out she also has a penis.

With a win tomorrow we'll be 4-3, not a bad start. Can you imagine what it would be with a competent MLB manager? It's difficult to believe that we are going anywhere with that nightmare of Montoyo. We need to field our best players at all times, it's called having a winning attitude and I just to see that with him.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 It’s clear Montoyo was never brought in to win us a championship, he’s here for player development and we’re technically still rebuilding. Expanded playoffs gives us a chance to be competitive but doesn’t change the fact we’re thinking a year or two ahead of schedule like the Braves when they made the playoffs. Our core only has one season under their belt. Wait until we make one or two more real free agent splashes (e.g. Trevor Bauer), our kids gain another year of experience, and Groshans, Martin, Kirk, Simeon, Manoah arrives from the farm system. At that time we’re closer to being a real 90 win team.

It's not an astronomical ask for him to not be a dumbass when it comes to in game managing.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted July 30, 2020 Author Posted July 30, 2020 It’s clear Montoyo was never brought in to win us a championship, he’s here for player development and we’re technically still rebuilding This is exactly right. He wasnt brought in to win the WS, he was brought in to develop the team and also because he speaks Spanish and can relate better to Gurriel, Vladdie....etc. He's never managed a MLB team before so he's gonna make rookie mistakes. I say give the man a chance. Lets see where we stand after 3 years

At that time we’re closer to being a real 90 win team. The problem with that reasoning is that Montoyo doesn't appear to be managing in either direction. He plays Panik over Fisher one day, which is anti rebuilding, but then he's trying out mop up guys in high leverage spots which is more of a tanking/dgaf decision another day. He refuses to take out an injured Giles in order to get a win against the Rays, but then uses Yamaguchi in two extra inning games with a runner on 2nd instead of extending his better relievers past an inning of work. Nothing Montoyo does makes any sense as far as team direction. I agree that he was not brought in to win, but in that case he better have a short leash as manager. Fire him after this season and hire someone who you expect to help the team win.

This is a lame excuse honestly....you can be both, you still can be a decent in game manager and good with young players, Montoyo has been very puzzling to say the least.
