Big enough news that it warrants it’s own thread

Jays could very likely make the playoffs.

I know this won't be a popular opinion but I like it for this season. It's more baseball, making it after 60 games wasn't conventional anyways. Plus a greater chance for the Jays, which for us here is pretty f***in sweet

For this year we have to deal with things being different like the extra inning rule but of course some purists will cry

I love it...should be a fun trade deadline....

Jays play every game on the road, make the playoffs, play every playoff game on the road, win the World Series = Put a banner up in Canada. Let's do this.

But yes, this means the Jays have a real shot at one of the WC spots. Whichever projected mediocre/average teams can have the hotter starts between teams like Toronto, LAA, Texas, White Sox, etc, will find their way in. I'm fine with it in a 60 game season. Just means more baseball.

As long as this a complete one off everyone should be happy about this. Probably lit a fire under a lot of players today knowing they have an increased chance at making the playoffs.

Purists need not apply because this is anything but a traditional season. Also they can suck my cock. More Baseball = Better.

So what kind of series breakdown will we have, byes for the two best teams and 3 game series for the rabble?

It's 16 teams so there are no byes. Top 2 teams in each division plus two wildcards. I believe I read the 3 division winners pick schoolyard style who they play against in a best of 3 first round. Higher seed gets home field for the full series

Why the f*** are they just doing this the SAME DAY the season starts?

I don't really mind it either for a crazy 60 game season.

I guess the MLB and MLBPA are desperate to squeeze every penny they can out of 2020.

Just to let you know. I have always thought/hoped you looked like your profile picture and I am personally disappointed to hear you have a cock. Others won't be, but I am :(

Manfred was on during the Yankee game and said it will traditional seeding (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc). Damn, what happened to pick your opponent?

Oh well. Just get the 8th seed, boys.

I’m fine with maybe 1 extra team from each league making the playoffs. But this format long term would be dumb and makes 162 irrelevant. Imagine watching a 100 win team get upset by a 78 win team. Which is very possible in a 3 game series.

He decided that it would be too interesting and scrapped it

I guess this explains part of the reasoning behind expanding the playoffs now. Not only for increased revenue in general, but becoming a more valuable commodity for ESPN. MLB already got their billion dollar deals/extensions with Fox and Turner, and now need one with ESPN. I'm sort of disappointed here as ESPN has been largely ignoring baseball for years, and actively putting it down on shows with more millennial aged hosts. More playoff games on TBS or Fox/FS1 would have been better, but Manfred wants that dough.

I don't get the big deal. NBA and NHL playoffs are 16 teams too, i guess the lower seeds realistically have no chance of winning, so people that think this is a bad idea think its a waste of time?

f***! ESPN is the worst of all the possible baseball networks. See yesterday's games for proof.

I didn't get a chance to watch yesterdays games, but I see everyone complaining it on twitter. Why was it so awful?

Mostly because A. Rod has turned into a cliched broadcasting pumpkin and his lack of talent is shining through under his J-Lo brand cover up.

He's no Tony Romo.

It is a very Bettman way of doing business. Which might be Manfred's best case scenario...become Gary Bettman
