baubau Verified Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I just didn’t think we’d be starting the Rocking for Rocker & Losing for Leiter campaign on the last day of spring training. Hey man, plan A of, "starting this season and winning it all" isn't off to a hot start. I am moving onto Plan B: Get Rocked for Rocker!
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 To be fair, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia is like comparing Ottawa to Toronto in terms of distance and population density. I mean, we have different stages according to different regions in our province, so why not there as well? The PA government might be resigned to a certain level of COVID on the coast that is unacceptable on the western end of the state. If they have resources allocated heavily to the east, they can't afford an outbreak in the west too.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I can’t believe Pennsylvania would make such a purely political decision Reeeeeeeee
philly30 Verified Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Phillies also travel to Florida for Marlins & TB this season. There’s two MLB teams in PA state. Adding the Blue Jays isn’t a groundbreaking event for the state of Pennsylvania, to be blunt they just rather not have us. This isn’t the Pirates fault, more so the USA government flexing on Canada. What does this have to do with the Federal Government? If it was up to Trump the stands would be full with fans and no masks

LMFAO at the Canadian inferiority complex. There is nobody in the PA state office secretly wringing their hands with an evil smile saying "haha, we f***ed those Canadians up HARD on this one". 90%+ of the people impacted here are U.S. citizens. From the Jays players and coaches to the workers at PNC who lost out on some overtime opportunities.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 So the Jays won't have a home park. Each "home" game will be in the "visitor's" park. Nah, not even that will work, too much travel.

That's probably true, but I find it hard to believe that they would have denied a team like Cleveland or Philadelphia if they were in the same situation.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Time to call around .... Hartford, Nashville, Columbus, Charlotte, etc. Find a suitable park to MLB standards.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Wonder if Cleveland or Baltimore are options? Atkins did say they have like 5 options they were floating with.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Looks like they changed their mind, this is f***ing s*** show, the season starts in 2 days. Ughh...
philly30 Verified Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 What about the field of dreams place in Iowa, there was going to be a game there this year, why not 30, It was going to be a night game I think so the lighting must be fine
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 The Marlins and Tampa Bay exist, and last I checked the Phillies are in Pennsylvania. True but they are still different cities. I’m not defending the decision just trying to rationalize it. At the end of the day it sucks.

Field of Dreams doesn't have s***!

Hotels have that stuff. I am sure there is a superior hotel near the Nashville diamond (built in 2015, beautiful) with everything the player's want.

If that was a solution, there is a decent Hyatt in Buffalo. I don't think that will fly with the players..

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 really disappointed they couldn't play at PNC, it's a great park. I guess now it's Camden or bust?

WILLIEUPSHAW Verified Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Pretty sure were down to Camden, Dunedin, or Buffalo. Late entrance’s are the New York teams. I think they need to put it to the players tonight and get the answer tomorrow morning: if you want to play in a MLB stadium you won't have your own home team facilities (I doubt they can just share that with the team that is the primary occupant). CBA be damned; we are not in normal circumstances! OR you can play in Buffalo or Dunedin, where you will be the home team with your own home clubhouse OR you can play every game on the road (assuming they don't get some pushback on that like what occurred in PA). And again you will be using visitors clubhouse with its lower amenities for the entire 2 months. At least in Buffalo, they can do whatever is possible to add amenities (exercise equipment, etc.) as resources and time allow.
MisterSG1 Verified Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 If that's the case, and it's the least ideal scenario, couldn't they play in the Trop or Marlins Park? I think you haven't seen the real slap in the face that will probably come a few weeks from now when the MLS is done their silly little World Cup style tournament. While three Canadian based MLS teams will be in the same predicament, allowing soccer to be played while baseball is not wouldn't surprise me the way the government behaves. I'll just leave it at that.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Just play all games on the road
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I can’t believe Pennsylvania would make such a purely political decision Reeeeeeeee This would be a monumental challenge for our staff, but leaning in to help others is what Pittsburghers do best. It’s just so ironic a day after the President of the Pirates makes this statement, the state government would come out and revoke any help to the Blue Jays.
