I am not sure who runs this, the team in coordination with the league is my guess, but to not have a plan B already in place after the Canadian Government collapsed playing at Rogers seems almost unfathomably incompetent.

 

Games between major league teams start this week and the Blue Jays do not have a home field to play games on.

They do have a plan B and C... players came to management and asked to play in an MLB park which they likely had done as well.

If only it were that simple. Was Rogers suppose to give Buffalo’s stadium a free upgrade just incase? This isn’t a video game. s*** doesn’t work like that.

Dunedin was actually plan A because the border crossing issues were clear even a month ago. Florida became a dumpster fire, which pegged them to change spring training location back home to Toronto.

 

Plan C is Buffalo, but the field is not ready and it’s not designed for MLB level operations due to lack of space and lighting.

 

Plan D is New Hampshire which might not be a bad choice given the proximity to airport and hotel next to the stadium, plus low covid numbers.

 

Plan E would be renting a third party park, there have been offers from other MiLB teams like Hartford.

The Pittsburgh Blue Jays! It's amazing if somehow the MLB, Pirates and Brewers would agree to move their night game to a day game on the 29th of July there isn't a scheduling conflict until Sept 8.

 

There would be 2 series that conflict in September. Both against the Yankees. They could play those on the road. Pittsburgh is the perfect solution.

If they were plans, the players would have nixxed them well before them being told they can't play at home. So they wouldn't have been mentioned.

 

Now they're hoping one of these other teams will agree to let them play on their home field. Teams say no, then what?

No, but they could have worked out a deal with another team to share a park and had the schedule worked so that it was a viable plan B.

Everything suggests they were already doing that in the background but it was not something that was seriously going to be considered unless it actually became a reality. Sometimes people need to a push. I’m sure they were contacting teams for months about this possibility. And for all we know it could have been the other franchises that were saying will think about it and cross that road when we come to it.

 

I think anyone suggesting that they just started doing this in that couple days and haven’t had these conversations before Saturday. That’s a very unintelligent person.

The number of games doesn’t matter. If anything, the fewer amount of games will make each game mean more to the networks. If the Jays are playing the Yankees, the YES Network is not going to want a 1 pm start on a Tuesday when it was originally scheduled for 7 pm. And night games in Buffalo that ruin the TV experience would make it pointless. They’d either have to fix the lights or use another big league park. I say just use Washington for the home opener since they are there anyway, but after that if Pittsburgh is available that would be a no brainer.

I agree, PNC is beautiful and Pittsburgh is a great area. Once the Jays players play at PNC regularly, they are going to hate the concrete Dome.
