BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd There will be a late mock update before 7 pm ET. I'm currently juggling three scenarios depending on what Baltimore does at 2. Baltimore gonna Baltimore!? will have to see if @Slade can clutch us a last minute update. The Orioles pick could shake up the whole draft for sure.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Orioles not a fan of Martin’s new haircut, shakes up the draft and he falls to #5.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 I am interested to see who the Pirates pick. IMO, Cherington and Saunders were at the top the secret behind our draft success the past few years, not Atkins and Shapiro.

Tony LaCava is the executive who ultimately oversees the draft, not any of the guys you named (and definitely not Shapiro). The foundation was built before Sanders got here, and while its obvious that he was a star in the making, you're kinda out to lunch if you think that our entire amateur scouting acumen went out the door with Cherington and Sanders.

The team's amateur scouting director had some influence in our draft success? Hmm, not sure I can believe it.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Who's ready for some racially influenced comps???
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Who's ready for some racially influenced comps??? I wonder who the first black player comp will be between Kenny Lofton, Adam Jones and Ken Griffey Jr.

I don't agree with that.. LaCava was around for years when we didn't do so well. Out drafts recently have been much, much better than prior to those guys. Cherington's influence and record from the Red Sox cannot be understated. I also saw/read ICR a number of interviews about Saunders and Cherington's influence. LaCava was good for some FA pickups...

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Who's ready for some racially influenced comps??? What race is Austin Martin? I can't tell if he is black, white or Mexican.. Some cracker looking white lady walked into his shot when he was live... Maybe his Mom?

LaCava's "focus" is on amateur scouting and it always has been. It was that under Anthopolous as well. He is the defacto "boss" of whoever the Scouting Director is, albeit that Shapiro's front office's are always built around input from everyone.

Yes, the last part is very important. Atkins always says it is a very collaborative approach. I strongly believe Cherington and Saunders were big and positive influences.. It is obvious, regardless of LaCava, the Jays drafting improved substantially after AA's Departure... I am an AA fan, but I will give the new regime credit for much improved drafting.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Veen or Meyer, please no Bustcock

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 The pick is in, Shut the F$% up and tell us!??
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Kiley McDaniel's last minute mock, Baltimore sticking with Austin Martin.
EZe Verified Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 It’s been interesting with the movement over the past couple months. I’ve struggled on where to slot helium risers Veen and Meyer. With Veen I’m getting vibes of Trea when I remember a lot of posters were on board and I was on that train. Difference is I’m not on that train this time. Here’s my board: Tork Martin Lacy Meyer (matches KL ) Hancock Gonzalez Veen Realistically I’ll be satisfied ending up with any of these.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 If the GM with the BLM sign on his desk picks a honkey white guy #1 that is racism!! Pick Austin Martin (he might be black?) and put your money where your mouth is!
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Social distancing does not apply here folks
Ray Verified Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Interesting that they announced him as a 3B
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 I was hoping the Tigers would throw a wrench in it.. Now it is up to Baltimore..
