I'm thinking maybe they were working on a trade for Snell and Darvish but only planned one or the other.

If they do get Darvish, how do they stack up against the Dodgers?

 

Rotation: Darvish, Snell, Lamet, Davies, Paddack with Gore waiting in the wings (assuming he’s not traded)

 

Top 5 offense. Not sure about the bullpen though beyond Pomeranz.

Just goes to show with with the Kim signing that the Blue Jays rumors are 60% BS.. It really seems like we are just being used as leverage... I would have low expectations and then we can be pleasantly surprised..

Did you read the Kim thread where guys were re-posting we are THE front runners, and multiple posts about which flight he was taking and which city and direct flights to TO from Seoul etc.... I can also go on and on about other players the Jays are supposedly the front runners or going hard for.

 

It seems that when the Jays kick tires, they are being used to drive prices up/competition.... Hence I said 60% BS.. I am sure 40% is accurate, what our/realistic chances are within that 40%, TBD...

Maybe, JUST MAYBE, that wasn't true and the Padres actually offered more years + money? The same tweet said his family preferred a West Coast team. There's too many variables here to just hold onto one part of the negotiation.

I don't like the return for the Cubs. Davies did show some improvements in 2020, but you still only get him for one year and it's doubtful that any of these prospects even see the major leagues for 3 or 4 years, if at all. I don't really get the plan here.

 

For us, it's guys like CJ Van Eyk and Estevien Machado. We probably weren't interested in taking on Darvish's salary, which is fair.

He put up 3 wins in 60 games last year. He's owed 20 mil a season. I can think of worse value..lol.

He's 34. If he's a free agent right now how much more does he get than the 3/$60 he's currently owed? I would guess a bit higher AAV and one more year.

 

He's great and he has value but it's not like Blake Snell trade value or really anything close to it.

 

I think the Cubs did okay. They got a bulk package of solid prospects from a deep system. I think they'll like this in hindsight even if none of the players really go bananas.
