Hamels to the 45-day IL.

 

I don't even know there was a 45-day IL.

The 60 day IL was shortened to 45 for the smaller season

Anyone have any idea what's going on in Houston with some of the pitchers? It seems more than just good coaching because their spin rate and k rate goes way up after they put on the Astros uniform. A few pitchers in particular come to mind... Verlander, Morton, and Cole. I think Trevor Bauer pointed this out a few years ago and now we know the Astros are full blown cheaters, so what gives with the pitchers going there and becoming really good? Has anyone seriously investigated this? Also noting that once they leave Houston they retain this new found ability (i.e. Morton).

Advanced, modern coaching and training probably accounts for 90% of it. Decent chance they’ve added some illegal foreign substances into the mix in previous years though.

I've said it before. The illegal substances (which every team is using to some extent) is very overlooked. Teams may have come up with a mixture that improves spin rates over the traditional sunscreen and rosin.

Interesting that with the new rules Maddon went to Robles tied in the bottom of the 9th instead of saving him for a lead.

Ohtani is just about the ideal runner for the Angels to start off the inning. Imagine if it was Pujols lol.

It's so sad to watch. They need to just release him and let him retire in peace. He's only hurting his legacy by continuing to go out there and look like a shell of his former self.

What does everyone think of the fake crowd noise? I thought it was ok but can be improved.

 

I was annoyed by it at first, and now it doesn't bother me.

 

Actually, I haven't minded the lack of audience at all.

IMO the Rays and A's have implemented it by far the best. Some other teams are either half assing it or inconsistent so it'll get randomly loud when it doesn't call for it. I like it personally, too much silence feels weird.
