TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Took it to the bash a mod thread. We are still learning how to deal with issues, but we don't need to discuss them on one of our three most popular annual threads
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2020 Author Posted July 8, 2020 Expansion is inevitable. Alternatively, that’s one way to get rid of the Rays!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Nashville + Montreal? Alternatively, that’s one way to get rid of the Rays! Ideally, add two teams to the league, and relocate the Rays anywhere else. If getting a 2nd Canadian team, I think Vancouver sounds more appealing than Montreal, but not sure if MLB has ever considered Vancouver. That market seems a lot more baseball friendly than Montreal's.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 It's on their list. And at least one MLB team has investigated Vancouver as a relocation destination. That's good news. I think Vancouver would kill it as a MLB franchise. Put a good team on the field, and that place would be 2015-16 Toronto when the Jays were hot.

It would be great for Cdn baseball.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Expansion is inevitable but still not happening any time soon.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Vancouver has strong fanbase potential and a great city. I’d also support it.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Unpopular opinion but Vancouver has one of the worst sport fanbase around. They support the event but not the team. It is a trend town where pro teams have one chance at long term success and that is sustained winning

While I don't think they're drawing the hype the did in the early 2010s there are still a lot of friends who follow the team. Just not renewing any season tickets. If any sports team were to move here and succeed, it would be a basketball team long before a baseball team.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Let's put a team in Calgary instead. The Calgary Stampede

It is a trend town where pro teams have one chance at long term success and that is sustained winning I remember that time the Canucks lost or something and Vancouverites lost their s*** and started flipping cars and burning stuff. They are basically Leaves fans except with a more recent history of success, to the point where their younger fans can actually remember a time when they were good.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Let's put a team in Calgary instead. Yeah, the Calgary Echoes. Has a real ring to it.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Author Posted July 10, 2020 Adell could be the answer to the Angel's outfield issues:
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Author Posted July 10, 2020 IMO the Angels are exactly the type of team to benefit from the short season. Over 162 games their pitching is going to cost them. But if Ohtani, Trout and Rendon all have hot streaks at the same time you could see them going on a winning run and sneaking a wildcard. Tough division though, so they can't afford to get off to a bad start.

If a lack of SP depth would sink the Angels over a long season it also has a good chance to sink them over a short season - that 3-4 week elbow inflammation issue that would not be a big deal over a 162 game season is a huge deal in a 60 game season when the replacement SP sucks. If Mike Trout rolls his ankle instead of missing 8% of the schedule he could miss 23%. All of the bad / mediocre teams have a higher chance to make the playoffs in a random short season. Now there are teams that could benefit from the unbalanced/unfair schedule... Edited July 10, 2020 by Laika
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Goddammit, you have to buy the $50US/year subscription to avoid ads on Fangraphs. Apparently their $20 membership isn't enough to let you avoid some of the most obnoxious ads on the internet. Get your GIF's ready.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Get your GIF's ready. My favourite so far
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) Surprised I didn't see anyone go for the Jose Canseco classic. If I somehow win, i will be donating my sub to Mr. BTS so he can finally stop posting about how much he hates seeing ads. I got zero likes and retweets, sorry BTS Edited July 10, 2020 by Boxcar
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Get your GIF's ready. How much did they pay him to do this?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Author Posted July 10, 2020 Get your GIF's ready. Who is going to post FYSMC?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Who is going to post FYSMC? I actually tried but I couldn't find one that would embed properly. Not that you'll see this but for other people
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 How much did they pay him to do this? Probably the cost of 20 1-year subscriptions.
