Damn Shapiro said he likes the Extra Innings rule and majority of the feedback from directors/managers is positive.

I get it makes the game a bit more exciting but still not a fan.

I'd be interested to know if players really hate extra innings that much. I could probably see that as their season is already a ridiculous grind.

I would not completely hate it (or something like it) if it started in say the 13th inning during a regular season.

Yeah I agree - let's play a few extra innings before we start with the gimmicks.

Yeah something like that would feel better. I have to imagine the pitchers hate the rule, you are getting tagged with runs you had nothing to do with.

If I recall correctly the pitcher doesn't get charged an earned run for the batter at second base scoring, it's charged against the team.

I think more than anything it makes games quicker. Extra innings benefit nobody. If most extra inning games end in the 10th, that's probably a good thing.

That's one rule I see sticking around.

The recent close losses really sting.

Even though Toronto's playoff odds will still be listed at 60%+, Fangraphs now projects them to finish the season at an even 30-30 and the Tigers to finish at 29-31. That's soooo little wiggle room. Over a full 162 game season their projected final winning percentages would lead to 82 and 77 win totals respectively, so a lot more breathing room. Tigers have also called a bunch of useful youngsters up so it's not like they are trash.

The last WC spot is basically a two team race.

To me the AL Central has three High End teams and the Tigers will fall away when they get wrapped up further in to playing them. The Al East does not have that. Right now it is 1 (rays and maybe the Yankees when they get their players back. With all that said; Jays should be able to clean up on the slop of the AL East on their way to the playoffs

A change was supported by the PA and agents already. It is here to stay I think. The optional rule which the PA countered with previously was adding a player to the roster for a certain number of days based on how many innings a game goes. No way they demand that again while this change is being pretty well received...even by old white men. I could see it ending up in the new CBA as an 11th inning rule though

I see it sticking around as well. As much as I hate Manfred, I think all the changes implemented this season are positive for the game (3 batter minimum, runner on 2nd in Extras, DH in the NL). All of those rules, plus the expanded playoffs, can stay long term as far as I'm concerned. Just make sure to add the "choose your opponent" feature to the playoffs moving forward.

My support for Manfred has always been that he recognizes that the game needs to make some changes and actually talks about them. However, his inability to be a leader and his lack of ability to be a person when talking about anything but baseball has shown that he is not the guy.

Jays remaining schedule is

Yanks x 10

Bosox x 5

Phillies x 4

Mets x 3

O's x 3

Marlins 1

Tigers

Minny x 7

KC x 6

Cleveland x 4

Brewers x 3

CWS x 3

STL x 2

Personally I don't see a discernible advantage either way.

Fangraphs has Toronto and Detroit both at a .508 remaining strength of schedule. It pretty darn close to a wash.

Except we're the better team.... Right?

Run differential wise they're still in a pretty big hole

I get FanGraphs, however looking at the remaining they have 16 Games versus what I would consider quality opponents and the Jays have 10. Not that either team cant lose to the 2nd tier teams.

Going by Fangraphs again they predict a .469 RoS win % for Toronto and a .419 win % for Detroit.

I don't really like it. I'd almost prefer something like 4 outs per inning in extras or something. Definitely should have a few innings to sort it out before anything kicks in though.

Yeah cause that is what the casual fan wants to see...more outs

Jays are now 19-16 and the Yanks are losing 5-1 to the Rays.

I like our post-season chances so far

And the Tigers lost to the Brewers, courtesy of Eric Sogard driving in Justin Smoak for the go ahead run. Former Jays helping out.

I’ve missed watching meaningful baseball and the scoreboard in September.

Good. Some irony there. 2 ex jays now with brewers who are off to awful starts.

Yankees lose. We are now 19-16, Yankees are 20-15.

So 1 game difference.

We are gonna surpass them, I guarantee it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

TEN games of the remaining 25 are against the Yanks. This could be epic!. Fun times (hopefully) coming up this September.

Someone was commenting in GDT yesterday Jansen has a 75 wRC+ over 600 PAs now. He has really struggled. How much worse could would Kirk be? I think we need more weight on this team since we DFA'ed Vogelbach. I don't know much about Kirk's D. C has been a black hole offensively for us 2020.

Makes me appreciate Russell Martin more, even though he had some lean seasons with us. Guy is under rated with a 55 WAR career. Thats impressive. Contrast that with Sal Perez in KC who has 10. Pudge in HOF with 69.

His baseball savant page is looking really sad as well. I'm a big believer in the xwOBA and related stats and those do not paint a pretty picture. How much longer do the jays give him? If he continues to suck then it might be prudent to seek an upgrade in the off-season. And I am the biggest Jansen fan out there.

Latest I heard about Kirk was he was still learning about how to effectively call a game and pitch sequencing. He's already on the taxi squad, so it's not out of the realm of possibility we could see him get some playing time this season.

Agree. Im a huge Jansen fan too. Want him to succeed. He spent 2 days volunteering to coach in Calgary Jan 2019 working with my son and others (Picture). One of the nicest pro athletes I've ever met. It was a lot of fun talking to him and watching him work. Said Luke Mailie was much more helpful to him than Martin. Thought that was interesting. So far Borucki's Dad hitting instruction to him hasn't paid off lol.

How much worse would Russell Martin even be!!?? 1.2 WAR in 249 PA last season.

Sign Russ and promote Kirk. Option Jansen and game his service time. Frame McGuire for a second round of public masturbation and collect the insurance money.
