Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Honestly would have preferred they kept Drury over Panik. That’s gotta be the next upgrade. Whether its Asdrúbal Cabrera or Tommy La Stella gotta get that much needed IF upgrade.

I mean honestly that's basically preferring one horrible pile of crap over a different equally horrible pile of crap. It makes no difference. In case anyone is wondering. 149 games for Brandon Drury as a Blue Jay. Miserable line of 208/253/353/606. And a truly impressive -2.5 bWAR.

Ex Player Verified Member Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 It's literally an MLB record. Other teams may have few, but we obviously have the worst. LOL.....I didnt know we were that bad

I likes Drury’s defensive versatility better. That’s about it. But yes they are both s*** and both should be gone.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Is drury the worst player in bluejay history who got significant playing time? Can't imagine there were many others who got a chance to accumulate as much negative war as he has. They really should have cut bait with him last year. But since he's one of shatkins "guys" he has a long leash
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Is drury the worst player in bluejay history who got significant playing time? Right up there with Goins probably. I'm pretty sure there's been some others I've blocked from memory though.

Ex Player Verified Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Jansen finally throws someone out....LOL
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Half a game back of the yankees after tonight boys

Juan Rivera was pretty s***, but he only lasted a couple months iirc. Brad Wilkerson, Corey Patterson, JoJo Reyes lol a few more names off the top of my head

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 The odds look good. Hopefully Atkins can improve them by adding an infield bat and perhaps another arm. Prices seem pretty reasonable for buyers so far.

Prices seem pretty reasonable for buyers so far. Just remember they have been rolling lately since Bichette went down (9 and 3), so when he comes back that will be huge and I hope they dump Panik (can't even get a bunt down). But another veteran upgrade on Panik would be huge right now. As mentioned above, only half game back of the Yanks (with 10 games against them still to come - that will be great to watch - hopefully). Also they are only 2.5 back of the current 7th place team (Indians) who themselves are only 1/2 game back of both Twins and White Sox. Should be an interesting month coming up ! ETA: Indians won so now there is a 3 team tie at the top of the AL Central. Edited August 29, 2020 by Dokken
TheDragon Verified Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Grichuk is almost exactly same batter he's been his entire career... he's getting lucky with HR/FB rates so far this year... nice little run though... O-Swing: same Swing%: same BB%: same K%: down a bit EV: same LA: actually down a bit (could it be he's popping out less by some tweak, hope so) HR/FB%: up 13%+

O-Swing: same Swing%: same BB%: same K%: down a bit EV: same LA: actually down a bit (could it be he's popping out less by some tweak, hope so) HR/FB%: up 13%+ Barrel percentage is way up, line drive percentage is up significantly, k rate is down 5% which is a big drop compared to his career norms, and he's swinging at a career best 29% of pitches out of the strike zone, and his swinging strike rate is a career best as well. His success is not simply due to home run luck, he's made some impressive changes right across the board after 6 full seasons in the big leagues, give the guy some credit where credit is due.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Did Jansen really throw someone out (finally)????

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Way to conveniently ignore all the things he did improve at Yeah. His o swing numbers are only marginally better than the last year, but his o swing contact rates are drastically better. He's staying on the ball better and fouling off sliders getting additional pitches rather than swinging over them. I mean not all of his points are without merit, but to say he's the same hitter is wrong. He's likely not as good as his numbers show now, but he's more than likely an improved version of what he was last year.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 The playoffs will be easy to make.

Where are you getting your data? O-Swing is the same: Career: 35.7% 2020: 34.7% Barrels is up a tick from 2017/2018. We're talking about 13 barrels this year, an extremely small sample and could be he's faced more s***** pitching. The other stuff you mentioned is definitely notable. He may have tweaked something with his swing or approach that's leading to better results but he's still likely getting lucky with the fly balls. Either way, enjoy it while it lasts.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 We should just throw caution to the wind and bring up Martin and see what he can do.

The last report I read was that both He and Groshans were struggling against the more advanced pitching, so I'm going to go ahead and vote against this.

Ross Atkins leaked that stuff so people like you would shill for the team against calling up their good prospects. smh
