Scion Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Yeah, I dont get it. Wont play today but we'll make it up in a double-header tomorrow. If It's just going to be an empty PC thing, why not just express things some other way We are talking about it now, aren't we? That is the first step, the second and most important step is to pressure the owners, media and sponsors to flex their influence to inact change. By postponing even one or two days worth of games the players are creating pressure to do just that.
Scion Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I say boycott until Bichette resumes baseball activities next week and do 7 inning double headers instead. Our BP is designed for this. 4D Chess move. Seconded, lol.

I now need to check CNN to make sure everythingn is ok in the world before I buy a ticket?

This is probably too political, but the entire world has been talking about racial issues since George Floyd was killed. We’ve been moving in the direction of racial equality for many decades, and if anything is going to expedite that movement it’s the giant protests that have been all over the news for months. It’s very hard for me to accept that postponing a ball game today and instead playing a doubleheader tomorrow is going to result in meaningful change.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 If NBA/MLB players cancel their season, I think that keeps the conversation going and maybe some real change can be discussed but not playing one day and making it up the next is so obviously an empty PC gesture that accomplishes nothing. People are already talking about it outside of sports, as it should be.
philly30 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 This is the first player boycott in my lifetime so I'm not entirely sure what you are talking about. Ok but I am talking about going forward, they have set a precedent, bad things happen walk out, if they don't they look like hypocrites, I hate to tell you there is going to be more incidents like this and probably very soon, so what now?

The NBA very likely could cancel the season unless they bring charges against that officer.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Were playing Baltimore tomorrow so it wouldnÂ’t be a double header. Chances are we host a home game at Fenway park in a double header scenario.

So the NBA should get to decide when someoen gets charges brought against them and if they don't like that they are not it walk out?
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Why is it taking so long for Vogelbach to join the team, at this rate Walker wont be on the team till well into September.

Only time will tell, but I think there is justification for putting pressure on powerful influencers aka owners and sponsors to push change forward. Colored people have been protesting for decades with little to no change, perhaps hitting the pocket books and disrupting the past time of North America will move things along.

Bad things happen is not a reason to do nothing. I don't know what the solution is, but I know that trying to do something is better than nothing.

Pressure is a 2 way street, wait until the next CBA comes along, you think owners won't put pressure on players ?

I don't know what the solution is, but I know that trying to do something is better than nothing. Bad things happen, but they can't go unpunished. That's what the NBA is fighting for. If bad things happen without punishment, how can can you ever stop the bad things.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I think that's the whole point of a protest..lol. I have no idea what will happen with the NBA. I'm just going off reports about the Lakers and Clippers. Do you not think that officer should be charged with attempted murder? Don't ask questions like that here.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I don’t want to intervene, because the conversation has been respectful and mostly related to the MLB/NBA protests, but this isn’t the place to discuss the shooting.

Wouldn't it be something if they pushed their own sponsors to stop manufacturing merchandise in sweat shops in China? Wouldn't it be more powerful if the push came from something that would hurt their own pocket books?
philly30 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Red Sox have decided not to play tonight

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 They better just give us the win. I don't understand these boycotts, who is suffering by them not playing?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Stupid f***s. In fairness, the Redsox haven't wanted to play for a couple weeks now!
