Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 See ya in a few days, mate, lol. I'm not the only one throwing around insults. Besides, I think this is fairly productive, and the discussion is around baseball. Besides, BTS doesn't go for the banhammer first anymore. He will either PM me to stop, or post in here asking us to stop while deleting over the line posts. Hurl, I suspect, wouldn't do anything because I don't really think this has gone beyond a heated argument. We are calling each other stupid strictly in response to things said in this thread and it hasn't extended into personal attacks.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 It's called common sense, something you clearly lack. There is already an outbreak. There are a few hundred detected cases a day, probably a couple thousand undetected, and several thousand active cases, many undetected. It would be different if Canada was New Zealand and there were no known cases. The r value determines the course of the pandemic. Not the (unlikely) addition of a few extra cases, on top of the existing thousands, that the Blue Jays _could_ bring. Am I wrong? Where is the math and modelling that shows the (unlikely) number of new cases the Blue Jays bring in matters?

Plat Verified Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Like I said, Boxcar > infectious disease experts right? you can keep thinking you're the coronavirus expert in this small ass little blue jays forums but the jays aint playing here and it is right decision, keep whining.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 I don't get why some people are so up in arms about the Jays not playing at the Rogers Center, it's not like theres going to be fans allowed anyway, you guys are really committed to seeing the blue outfield walls and seats huh? Why take the resources and manpower away from the public to ensure that Jays and their opponents play here when there's not going to be fans allowed anyway, also taking a chance (although a small chance) of this whole thing starting an outbreak. There are planes coming from the States to Canada every day. We had an outbreak in Sask when two separate people who flew from the states landed in Toronto and Calgary. They then took connecting flights with people flying domestically to Saskatoon. The most likely place to pass on Covid because of the airflow and confined space is the air plane. Even if the travelers coming back from the states follow quarantine rules(which no one monitors anyways), all the domestic passengers on the connecting flights could have unknowingly caught Covid on the plane and went the grocery store the very next day and passed it on. Compare that with what the Jays were going to do. Trudeau has zero common sense.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 How is not letting the Blue Jays play at the rogers center when there's no fans allowed anyway during a worldwide pandemic not "living your life"? how do you make that leap? I don’t really see that as a leap at all. Its the reality of the situation and the state of paranoia. These Baseball players aren’t going to be slumming it in Key West after games f***ing college girls. Multiple border crossings or not these players are being tested constantly. To the point of being genuinely uncomfortable. They are no greater threat to public safety than the sketchy people who walk into your local wal-mart or grocery store. Canada shut all sports cross border sports, how do you answer to them? Never said there was an easy solution to this. I just don’t think the solution is stopping everything you do and hope it goes away eventually. I don’t think that’s the answer.

I will, thanks. I also don't base my opinion on anything other than science. What I see is governments ignoring science for political expedience.

New York, Massachusetts and Maryland all had the same quarantine rules. Each state had infectious disease experts. They all gave their blessing to the MLB. The federal govt made a political decision. It wasn't about keeping people safe.

King Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Holy f***, no one wants to read this s***.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Here is what people don't get. There are 0 cases in New Zealand. The r value in New Zealand is probably about 3 (because they can now act normally). If a sports team brought in 5 new cases they would grow like crazy in New Zealand, and force them to go back to their old and strict lockdown. A sports team could restart the Pandemic. There are 10000+ active cases in Canada, many undetected. The r value in Canada is probably about .9 (because we are still under restrictions). An additional 5 cases in Canada would be inconsequential, it would move cases 10 weeks from now from ( 10000*10^.9 = 3486 ) to (10000*10^.9 = 3485) Am I wrong?? I mean my math is highly simplified of course. But is the general idea wrong?

I think you're talking about the shitshow going on to the south of us, Canada seems to be doing good and that's because we have been following strict protocols and now's not the time to let up.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Holy f***, no one wants to read this s***. Didn't you start a completely erroneous thread about baseball being back like 3 months ago?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Yes, yes it is. No a Karen moment is making a scene. I’m suggesting just walking away from the gong show. If your going to throw around insults atleast use them right lol.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Holy f***, no one wants to read this s***. I understand that people wanted the culture of the board to change a bit. However isn't this a pretty big decision and a topic people should be able to vent on a bit?? No need to call each other morons, but shouldn't it be OK to discuss the wisdom (or lack of) of the decision and how it could effect the future (free agency etc.)?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Holy f***, no one wants to read this s***. Yes, Boxy thinks it's on topic. After he threw bait, lol...

The US hot spots also have a ton more people in a much smaller area. You're not seeing places like Idaho, Iowa, Wyoming, Vermont, etc. blowing up because the population density is much lower than Florida, New York or California. Canada is similar, in a sense. More space for about a tenth of the people.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Didn't you start a completely erroneous thread about baseball being back like 3 months ago? He did, but it was about ball.

If your going to throw around insults atleast use them right lol. Spanky doesn't understand modern cultural references. He fell on his head as a child after a tragic encounter with a bike and picnic table. That's actually the origin of the insult "bike" for him. He's always felt like the bike f***ed him over and thus he uses that word to label people he feels have wronged him.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 He did, but it was about ball. How is this not about baseball? Unfortunately, the virus permeates everything we do.

That and they also have a significant amount of crazy yahoos in the southern states and Cali, where they think putting a fabric on their faces equals violation of freedom...we got less of them up here, and they opened everything up way too early.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 D- you're lame. Harsh. I thought it was at least a C+
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Canada is doing “good”. But its not living lol. Lets just continue to do nothing better than everyone else. Maybe boredom will kill us before the Virus does, We can really show the world! Eventually you have to take chances. But its going to be years before we get there at this rate. No perfect time exists to getting back to normal. No matter how you do you will see a ramp up of cases because it’s the nature of the beast. I’m not saying America does it right. Not even f***ing close. But we can’t sit on our hands until a vaccine comes. Like you gotta live your life. The economy is a f***ing Nightmare. People are not working or leaving their house and getting paid for f*** sakes.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 2 levels of governments with infections disease experts were fine with the plan. New York, Massachusetts and Maryland all had the same quarantine rules. Each state had infectious disease experts. They all gave their blessing to the MLB. The federal govt made a political decision. It wasn't about keeping people safe. That's my issue with this as well. New York was hit very hard in March/April. Now they are in a pretty good spot, but have no problem letting the Yankees and Mets play home games in NY where players will be coming from different states (including two teams from Florida). New York is also very Dem, so if they are OK with it, then I don't even know what Canada's decision was based on. If science is subjective now, then we got bigger problems as a society. I don't live in Canada, so they can give the Jays franchise to Dave Stewart and move it to Nashville, and I wouldn't care. So if it's in Buffalo, then so be it. Sucks for the players, though.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 So two wrongs make a right? just so we can see the blue jays play at home for 30 games? The 2 aren't comparable. One poses tremendous risk. The second poses almost zero risk. People are at greater risk going to a grocery store. I'm pissed because we just turned away millions in tax revenue. No biggy Trudeau doesn't care about spending money and what's a few more dollars to the deficits that are growing out of control. On the baseball side, our players are now have a substantially higher risk of catching Covid. What happens if we actually do get off to a hot start and we miss the playoffs by a game or two and we had 3 of our best players miss the last 2 weeks because they caught Covid? The odds of a player dying because of Covid are next to nil. The odds of a team missing the playoffs because of Covid are actually quite high!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Looks like we needed a cesspool OT Corona Thread afterall??? Edit: They all should've stayed and punish the turds who bring it in the main thread. Pretty simple.
