saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Because this team wasn't in a position for sustained success. We certainly seem to be following the Astros blueprint. We're just now at the time when we start to spend to add to the core (+ there's another wave of prospects on their way). This isn't that hard to follow. Following the Astro's blueprint just like 10 other teams. So who are we going to sign? What type of player for what dollars.

wk680 Verified Member Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 I think Rogers bought 80% of the Blue Jays for 200M and they're now worth 1.5B, so I think Rogers will be ok. Yes I have always been of the opinion that Rogers would be smart to be willing to operate the Jays at a perrennial loss just for the boost in TV viewership and other associated revenues of the greater fan interest that would occur if it meant a winning team. But they don't refer to them as Cheapo Corp for nothing

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 $60M, $50M, $40M, $30M, $25M, $20M, $15M lands the Jays Cole? You talking about differing money? Your front load feddish runs deep, bro. This is one of those times where Jim is absolutely right. Front loaded contract is how the Jays have to play this. Not just with Cole but with any top FA. Use the salary space of this year, keep the team intact when arbitration comes around for the young guys.

Yeah, I'm down for that with our flexibility, also *feddish?* I'm dumn.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 $60M, $50M, $40M, $30M, $25M, $20M, $15M lands the Jays Cole? That would get it done if they also included a player opt out clause after season 2, and every subsequent season after that. So yes, 2 years, $110m gets it done.

So yes, 2 years, $110m gets it done. How about 40 million a year for 12 years but with mutual options every 2 years
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 How about 40 million a year for 12 years but with mutual options every 2 years I doubt he'd get a better option that that anywhere...although they'd likely balk at the tem option aspect. He'd likely take less to have full control with only players options.
Todd Van Anus Verified Member Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 We need 1's not 3's! This doesn't move the needle so I'd say no. We have enough potential 3's in the system...
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Odorizzi had success pitching in the AL East when he was with Tampa, so I could see why Toronto is interested.

You do realize that a rotation of #3 starters performing up to their true talent level would be one of the better rotations in the league, right?

Odorizzi accepted his qualifying offer already, I'm pretty sure Toronto's interest in signing him as a free agent has gone down significantly. Can we close this thread please?
