Question for you guys:

Do you think if/when the Jays win a world series, their parade would be as big as the Raptor parade was this year??

I was at the 1992/1993 parades, and they were considerably smaller. Granted the Toronto population was a lot less back then.

So what do you think, bigger, same or smaller??

EDIT: also a BJ parade would take place in October/November, so the colder weather would play a part IMO

There is a metaphor about Don’t be planning a Parade before you have achieved your goal/mission etc.

I think Shapiro is good at building a “sustainable” competitive team, but not being able to take the extra steps to take us to the promised land. Hence I won’t comment on Hypotheticals.

It seems like a whole lot more young people + ethnic people are into basketball in Toronto than baseball just from personal experience.

Young people in general find baseball boring

Well, it would have to be bigger. In the year 2136, the population of Toronto could be double what it is now.

LOL....nice.

I have to agree with most opinions, it would be smaller than Raptors, but I also think it would be much larger than 1993 (even taking the larger current GTA population into factor)

I think it would be smaller. How big was the parade the last time the Jays won it?

1 million estimated in 1992. With 52k waiting 6.5 hours in the dome.

As for the age of the fans...like you have to enjoy the sport to party.

The Jays recent playoff runs were bigger news than the Raptors in the majority of Canada from what I saw. I'm certain that a Jays title would be a much bigger deal as far as the nation is concerned.

Parades are a local thing however, so I really can't say.

I wish it were not true, but he's right...

Young people have a shorter attention span, so they prefer fast-paced sports like basketball. And the amount of rules in baseball, as well as the constant references to its long history, might alienate 'ethnic people.' Basketball is just more intuitive.

But a parade is a parade. And girls love the Blue Jays (and so the boys will follow), especially when they're winning, and it'll be an Instagram-able event, blowing up all over social media.

Still, it's hard to say... I could see a million if the weather is mild enough.

The Jays were welcomed home from Atlanta, with a World Series victory parade attended by more than 250,000 fans.

I can't find anything to verify your claim of a million in attendance for the '93 parade, but the CBC says it was just 250k for the '92 parade, so...

I counted.

The 1 million was actually the Star's report on how many were on the streets the Saturday night. Which seems high. I'll believe Strombo's numbers because he's f***ing strombo

It would be smaller. Even a Leafs parade would be hard to surpass the Raptors.

I think a Leafs parade would draw the largest number of people from outside the GTA, the following across Ontario (and beyond) is massive and the vast majority have been waiting their whole lives.

Yes. But it would be a very white parade. I think the Raptors capture the imagination of a more colorful crowd.

I remember when Jack Morris hopped on a police bike and started driving around on it inside the skydome.
